But how can you truly hoard it if you only go two of the three days?

Jeff had told me they were releasing Fen Tao this weekend, I wish I could have included that in our details but of course I didn't want to steal their thunder by announcing their news for them. No dick move by any means by @jesterkingbeer - they of course have to think of their own business first and foremost, but if anything I think this will just make this weekend all the more awesome for beer releases. Maybe Jeff and I should team up for some kind of FT-JK shuttle bus service with a stop at Real Ale in between? (I'm kidding, but this would actually be awesome).

In any event, just think of how far Texas has come that now we have so many choices in terms of events happening on any given day. I think Freetail was lucky a few years ago in that our bottle releases didn't have a whole lot of competition with other events because there weren't nearly as many breweries and no one was doing bottle releases the way we were. The game has changed, and Texas is better for it. I doubt Freetail will ever have a release that isn't up against something else cool again, but that's all good because it is a sign of how healthy and robust the Texas beer scene is. (On that note... Dia de La Muerta is going to be bigger than ever this year... details on that coming soon... but I only point this out because it is the same day as Untapped Dallas).

    Cheers,

    Scott

I think JK's choice of release also had something to do with the Pride rally in Austin or that was a coincidence and the beer just happened to be ready. The only people that are conflicted are those that feel they need to have every beer. I'm choosing FT (mostly because I live in SA) and because the bottle share will give me the chance to see people I haven't seen in forever (unless @miikezombie shows up in which case I'm leaving). As Scott said, this is actually a good thing for Texas beer and I have no doubt that both breweries will sell all of their beer.

The smart move would be to bring enough mules so that you only need to go once. Lol

On what planet full of self-entitled 13 year olds would Jester King releasing a beer qualify as "a dick move"? Maybe this is actually the retort to the Texas Beer Scene thread's positivity about the beer scene growing. Having two beer events in two different cities, one of which spans at least an entire weekend, is apparently so rare and outrageous that it could only be that the second event is trying to steal people away from the first. In related news, Blue Owl is going to be making sour beers too. Dick move or good one? :astonished:

On a more positive note, I'm excited to see some Freetail in Austin now! I wish I could make it to this event, but I guess just the fact this it exists and is a big deal to this many people is a great sign for beer in Texas. Someday my kids will be old enough so that convincing my wife that me leaving her alone with them and driving down to San Antonio just to drink beer is a good plan.

Didn't Fen Tao release during SMABRD last year too, I don't see it as a (negatively) big deal.

The same planet where people take their grandmothers to mule beer for them?

Okay, I get it. I'm a dumb **** for asking the question. I'll go away now

It is no move by Jester King, they are simply releasing a beer. Apparently you are the only one to read anything else into this.

I didn't read anything into it, I asked a question. The more pertinent second part of which has been ignored by a handful of people who feel it more important to focus on the first part to prove how un-dickish they are in a very dickish kind of way.

In any event, seems my question is answered... folks don't seem to mind. A handful (me included) will go to both and just make it a lovely beer weekend all around.
