Any Bars/Shops that would be likely to have De Garde in stock? I know it's extremely limited but read they distribute some to Portland.

Things are pretty dry around town right now I think. Your best bet is likely to be Arch Bridge Tap House over in Oregon City, but definitely give them a call first before driving over there (it's a bit of a drive to get over there from downtown PDX).

You're gonna hafta hunt for De Garde... I do know that Food Front on Thurman had a few bottles of the Bu Weisse - the first I've seen around town in about a month...

Bu Weisse and Petit Desay were all over Portland a couple months ago. At the moment, however, we're in between batches, and the next bottling won't hit the shelves for another couple of months.

Even out here in Beaverton the supply of shelf De Garde has pretty much dried up. If you find some, it will be because you stumbled on to it unexpectedly.

Thanks guys. Good to set expectations, was hopeful a batch may be hitting.

I'll be in Portland on Wednesday & Thursday. Staying near Apex Bar & Beermongers. Hoping to also visit HOTD, Cascade, Growler Guys & Belmont station. I'm sure I'll leave happy even without De Garde.

Lots of great information on here. We're heading to Portland this weekend. Can anyone recommend a good place to grab great beer and also watch a game? With college football starting this weekend, I need to catch my team. I've never been to Portland, but from my experience, breweries and beer bars can be a little hit or miss when it comes to watching a game.

Probably depends on the team you're trying to catch, but you have some options.

The Blitz sports pubs have lots of TVs and show lots of different games. Blitz Ladd is conveniently located in inner SE and is minutes (or less) from Beermongers, APEX, Lardo, and right next door to Baerlic Brewing. Claudia's on Hawthorne is another good option.

As for Breweries, you might have luck at Fat Head's or Deschutes, though Deschutes only has 2 TVs, so you may be out of luck depending on which team you want to watch (and they get packed on the weekends).

There are some other good spots that I'm forgetting, but I'm sure someone else can chime in and help out.

With all the great information in this thread, it's still missing the information I need: Brewery Tours. Recommendations, cost, etc.
The only thing I've found is expensive multi-brewery tours/crawls. I'm just looking to tour one brewery. Help is much appreciated!

I'm sure there are others, but the only one's I'm familiar with are at Widmer and Full Sail out in Hood River. At Full Sail, I believe they do daily tours at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00.

    For Widmer....

TAKE A WIDMER BROTHERS BREWERY TOUR FOR JUST $5
    Mondays - Thursdays at 3pm
    Fridays at 2:00pm & 3:00pm
    Saturdays at 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm & 3:00pm
    Sundays at 1:00pm & 2:00pm
Reservations required / group sizes are limited
Closed-toed/closed-heeled shoes are required to participate in our brewery tours.
    Call 503-281-4000
Once your reservation is confirmed, please plan to meet your tour at the Widmer Brothers retail store prior to your tour start time. Close toed shoes are required to participate in our brewery tours.

You can repay us by starting a similar thread for your area. It simplifies things so much, instead of having to answer the same questions on endless threads.

Except for the largest breweries who have formal tour schedules, my experience has been that it's on a case-by-case basis and subject to whatever the brewery has going on; you can generally get a quick "here's the tanks, there's the barrels, thanks for stopping by" if someone is available but that's probably not what you had in mind. Given that the majority of Portland breweries are small staffs with people wearing multiple hats, it's all dependent on whether they can stop what they're doing to entertain a visitor.

If you have specific breweries you want to connect with, I recommend contacting them directly to inquire about a specific date and time. Maybe mention that you could bring something from one of your locals to sweeten the deal?

Thanks for the info. I figured the generally small brewery size was the reason I couldn't find formal tours. It's actually for a friend's bachelor party and he doesn't seem too concerned about which brewery it is. I think he just wants to do one.

Widmer sounds perfect. I'll give them a call.

Great section, two weeks and counting! I plan to bring some back in my checked luggage, but plan to ship as well. In this and other threads, I've seen fed ex, Portland wine and rose city, what is my best bet?

Ummmmm... assuming I'm interpreting your post correctly...

Rose city wine vaults is a good place to pick up shipping boxes. In terms of what carrier to use, Fedex and UPS are both good options. It's illegal of course, but some folks use USPS as well.

If you do decide to use Fedex or UPS, it goes without saying that you should not advise them that you're shipping beer back home. Both Fedex and UPS do not allow anyone who isn't a winery, brewery, or licensed retail outlet to ship alcoholic beverages.

Heading to pdx this weekend. Hoping to find some Ching Ching but have no idea of its availability. Any idea of where I could pick some up? Also, is there anything of note going on either at breweries or bottle shops this weekend that I should be aware of? Thanks!

Preparing for a Portland and Seattle trip over the weekend. Will spend a few days on foot/public transportation from downtown then getting a car to for day trips to visit the shore, gorge, etc. before driving up to Seattle.

Anybody have some suggestions on where to park overnight in Portland that won't bankrupt me? The hotel has valet parking but at a big expense = more than the daily rental of the car. I don't mind walking to somewhere if it's a rather safe place to park.

Hoping to run into some fresh hop offerings since it's that time of year.

Which hotel are you staying in? If you're downtown, it'll be tricky to find cheap parking, though there may be garages nearby that aren't as bad as the hotel. If you're on the east side, you'll be a lot better off and much more likely to find street parking.
