515 Brewing - Des Moines, IA

The Citra hop has been incredibly inconsistent over the past year or so. Most of the citra we get now is not nearly as good as it was two to three years ago. There's a good chance the decrease in flavor and "juiciness" had nothing to do with 515 or their brewing skills/technique. In fact, having drank enough of their beers, I'd be willing to wager that is the case.

 

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge 515 fan. I love most of their beers, but they are notoriously inconsistent as well.

 

I love 515 as well and i've noticed this with lil tart. I had one that smelled absolutely horrible about 6 months ago.

 

Beginning of next month soon? My cousin is coming through on the 2nd and I was hoping to fill out a growler or 2 of brew for him.

 

It's gonna happen in the next week or two for some of our stuff, and hopefully soon after for most of the rest of it.

 

Finally got around to visiting this past weekend. Was very impressed with Medicoré! Good vibe too.

 

Would love to take a growler of mediocre up to Decorah for a bottle share but would settle for having one for the fist tailgate at kinnick in two weeks.

 

Sorry BottleCaps, beat you to the punch. 515 officially has growlers! Lil' Tart, Belgian Paradise, 3 Way, and Pallet Parking.

@Ericksne Are those just the brews they are allowing to be filled, or are they pre-filling?

 

Not sure about that fact my friend. I would assume filling them fresh, but don't know.

 

It's good. You'll want to drink a lot of it.

We'll be pouring them fresh. These are just the ones we are filling/selling for now. Trying to ease into it a little bit. Guessing we'll be filling OJ growlers in a couple weeks though (depending on production ramping up a bit), and batches of the new stuff we put on as they come up. There will probably be a cap on how much we will pour into growlers (i.e. once we are down to the last few kegs of something, we'll probably stop pouring growlers of it until we can forecast a new batch).

Pricing will be $2 for our glass, plus $8/$16 for 32/64 oz fills of 4.75 beer and $10/$20 for 32/64 oz fills of $5.75 beer (most/all of our hoppy stuff). We'll only have 32 oz growlers for sale at first, but will fill 64s if you bring them in (and clean).

 

Finally, I can look forward to visiting family in central IA!

It'll happen eventually...not on the production schedule at the moment. Guessing it'll happen in a month or two though.

 

I'm planning on visiting the first weekend in November, so that sounds like a good time...

 

Man...if only this was next week!

 

New batch of OJ IPA was just kegged yesterday. It is fantastic and now also available for growler fills!
