I haven't got any rules myself... But I drink mainly trappist or other kind of strong beers, i drink maximum three or four beers /week, but not necessarily during w-e. Sometimes it's as "apéritif", sometimes in the evening while reading a book and listening to music (in both these cases, I usually serve a portion of cheese cubes to go along), sometimes, it's during a meal (for example, a Chimay Bleue with a Jambonneau moutardière). Part of the reason why such a reasonable consumption is the calories/suger it contains, especially that the stronger and darker they are, the more of it there is in it.

Long-gone are the days when drinking a 12 pack of Molson(Canadian) or Labatt (JLC) while watching NHL or NFL games with the buddies, anyways.

Nowadays, when out with the buddies, I'll usually favor wine, unless in a place where they have a good beer selection on the menu.

I just start to feel like shit after a weekend of solid drinking. Taking a few days off definitely makes me appreciate and enjoy the beer much more

I was doing only Friday through Sunday drinking last fall, then I allowed myself a "cellar" review once a week which turned into one more night through the week, then I was buying enough to keep up with that schedule until I was buying too much, then I had to drink more nights to keep inventory down, then a box would arrive....

I am now cutting back pretty much to last fall levels (Friday - Sunday). Given the fact that I will be spending at least 4 nights a week shuttling kids to various sports, still need to squeeze in the gym and all this while getting up at 4:15, getting to bed hopefully by 9:30 or 10:00. Just can't see where beer is going to add value to my already spoken for week any longer. But as @otisdriftwood points out, going without really does make it more enjoyable. That and now I can have those 6 or 7 NBS reviews every week without adjusting my buying habits! Very without MUCH adjustment I guess......

I try to keep my intake to no more than 14 a week. I was curious how close I would come to this average so I kept track of every beer that I drank last year. It came in just under a 2-beer/day average. Very rarely did I have more than three or less than one each day. The only negatives health-wise that I experienced during this time were losses in energy that were highly correlated with the birth of our second child.

I drink 1-2 per day. Every 6 months or so I decide I need to take time off. I don't set that time off amount in stone. One time, I did 3 days and my longest was 17.

Who says I was worried about it? I was expressing my thoughts on a specific subject.

Just goes to show; when you assume you make an ass out of u and me.

OPD, let me ask you this. We're you drinking daily before your interest in craft? After I had just gotten my I'll spent 20s, pounding heavily, under control, I literally dive into craft beer. The other factor was, like you, my age. Kids are 24 and 19, and full time duties are over. I've noticed my medicinal intake has increased to daily as well once they moved out. And like you, I wonder if that's a good thing?

I drink most days, what can I say I LOVE BIER! I keep it down during the week but no prob putting down 6 or 7 on weekend  but... interesting that some suggest that the flavour is better when less frequent.

Short answer: Yes add No. But the daily drinking I was writing about was an exception not the rule. During my pre-marriage years I worked in the hospitality industry so drinking every day was accepted, encouraged and expected.

I used to have leftover beer on Monday and would drink one or two in the evenings after work. But for the last few years there are rarely any leftovers. I kinda like the four day cooling off period during the week with no booze.

    My findings:
    - beer (in general) tastes best to me when I'm hungry, prior to eating + had some time off from the last beer I've had (either 24 hrs or 3 days in between...doesn't matter as much)
    - If I have 1 beer with lunch or early afternoon, then try to have another beer later in the evening, the evening beer isn't as tasty/enjoyable even without any alcohol affects in my system.
    - I really only lose any desire/taste to take a day off from having A beer is if I'm either sick (cold flu etc), or when I've induldged more than I should have the day prior. No interest.
