This really made me realize how hard it was to name a top 5. But these were the brews that just made me say "wow".

Great list! When did you drink this latest Black Butte? I just saw it for the first today in WI.

    Based on 'exceeding' my expectations:

    1. Surly - Todd the Axe Man. Replaced Zombie Dust as my go-to PA/IPA.
    2. Prarie Artisan - BOMB! Shocked me at how smooth it was for a high abv beer.
    3. Russian River - Pliny the Elder. I expected to taste 'meh' based on how many people said it was over-hyped. But I had it on draft at Russian River Brewery, and it was fantastic.
    4. Russian River - Supplication. Convinced me that I can like good sour beers.
    5. Firestone - Parabola. Draft and bottle, both were awesome.

    CBS
    Lou Pepe Kriek
    Crimson Snapper
    Two Barrel Billy
    Savant Blanc

These weren't the "best" beers I have probably had this year, but these 5 left a huge impression on me. CBS/Kriek were huge bucket list beers and they completely lived up to the hype.

    Yep, that's them.

I will return to add to add the rest. But this definitely the number one. Great mid west coast style /West coast / American IPA. I only had one six pack and I searched and searched for more. If it does that to Dr. ? It's GOOD!

I already posted here but I feel I must add one - this beer was THAT good. Last night at the Shepherd n Knucklehead they had a Oskar Blues event. I tried their new IPA, excellent beer. After that I figured I'd try their Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Chub, mainly because I knew I might never have the chance again as it was the first time I even heard of it. I am damn glad I did. Holy crap that is an amazing beer. One of the best I've ever had. Please Oskar Blues - come out with this in cans, it will be a huge hit. I'd be first in line.

I had it probably a week or so ago? Had it on tap at a local beer pub/restaurant. It was AWESOME. I might like it better than Abyss.
