I saw this on Beer News and was wondering if anyone in the SW has any more details. Here is the link to the original thread. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/jester-king-collab-with-the-bruery.331298/
Glad this is being bottled by The Bruery, will make getting bottles via RS much easier than fighting release in Austin
I had heard a rumor that both breweries would be bottling. @jesterkingbeer is that true? Would love to do a side-by-side with the Bruery bottle I'll receive.
Well... it is distributed through Texas, but not to Texas. The trucks drive right on past to get to Louisiana and Florida... Thanks @TABC, you're the worst.
TABC charges breweries a flat fee to be licensed and distribute their product in our state. This fee is the same if they just want to pour it once at a festival or if they send pallets to every grocery store in the state. Many small to midsize breweries intentionally bypass Texas when they are expanding their distribution footprint in favor of other states that are less burdensome and costly to incoming businesses. So, yes, TABC is at fault for this. Most breweries that distribute to nearby states but not to Texas, do so because of this burdensome licensing fee. Why pay a fee of several thousand dollars to be allowed to do business in a state when you don't have enough supply and can just send your product to other states instead?
The collaboration was brewed at The Bruery, so unfortunately due to the TABC code, it will not be available in Texas. We do have future plans to make the beer again at Jester King, but that beer will be a ways off.
Thanks for pointing this out. This is exactly right. We like to point people towards this post we made on this topic whenever we can: http://jesterkingbrewery.com/the-gr...iverse-and-why-it-could-never-happen-in-texas
