Can anybody keep all the Mikkeller beers straight? My local market gets a slew of Mikkeller and some bottle shops love to "accidentally cellar" some things, so I find some interesting Mikkeller beers every once and a while. I see the stouts, christmas beers, lambics, fruit sours, etc.

I just picked up 2014 Hues. Can anyone tell me anything about this beer?

What is the general consensus with Mikkeller? Do people seek out their beers? Leave them on the shelf?

Haven't tried a single one. I often wonder what I am missing.

It's a mixed amount of opinions, and it varies from location to location what people think of them. Hues was fantastic when I had it but that was awhile ago.

I do like them, have visited their pubs in Copenhagen and San Francisco which are fantastic places with great people. Most people on here like to say they are overpriced, but they are a foreign import which creates 2 strikes against them in terms of freshness and cost whether that's a reality or just a perception is up to who you talk to.

I've also had good relations with them through emails as they have been responsive with questions I had too.

I dig em, but I will admit I purchase their brews sparingly as there is much more recent stuff to go around. I will by them from time to time as there is some very tasty offerings. They're nice little finds once in awhile to go back to.

Mikkeller beer is good, but it is very cost prohibitive. That is unless you come across a typo where bottles are being sold for $3.99. Wasn't me, but the guy bought them ALL!

Three things about Mikeller that keep me from buying it:
    1. The quality of the beers varies based on brew and style drastically
    2. They have so many brews that I often can't decide what I should pick up
    3. It's damn expensive
They did just do an event at Threes Brewing in BK that apparently was fantastic, so I really don't know what to think. That probably wasn't any help.

Costly, true, but I've always had good luck with their stouts. I have enjoyed all the ones I've tried so far, such as the Beer Geek Brunch, Beer Geek VS, and Black Hole, and have a couple more from the Beer Geek series in the cellar. I figure they are worth at least trying once, so I don't really look at the cost as being too prohibitive. As I see it, I'll probably only get one shot to try their limited release stouts in the first place, and they don't last on the shelves for long, even at their prices. I don't really seek out anything else other than their limited release stouts, so I can't really offer any insight on their other beers.

Overpriced and underwhelming, from what I've tried. Why drink an "okay" beer from halfway across the world that is marked up and a little old when you can buy something local. Would love to try some of the more sought after releases like BA vanilla shake, but of course that's not what you see on the shelf at your average liquor store.

I enjoyed stopping at the pub in SF, though. Nice little place. Had a great mix of Mikkeller, local brews, and even rare stuff like Cantillon.

Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Shake is one of the best I've ever had, it's absolutely amazing. An odd one that I really like is their Golden Sap, it's an imperial pils aged in maple syrup barrels. Its pricey at $15 for a 500mL bottle (maybe smaller) but it's pretty tasty

I'll repeat what most people are saying:
-I've had some bad, some ok, some good from Mikkeller. Never great.
-Way too variable for the price (this isn't like the 'Problems with Sours' forum- I have no idea why I'm paying this much for this beer, and it can be even more expensive than those time-space-craftsmanship hogs).
-The number of active beers they have is overwhelming- when I'm in a store all the names sound the same and I'm not sure if the ones I'm looking at are the fabled ones or impostors (they have seven varieties of Beer Geek Brunch, for example, and many many more that also start with Beer Geek).

When I'm passing by their shelf space I usually get drawn in by the colorful and funky art, then get confused by the names but try to press on, and finally see the prices, laugh, and walk away.

decent beer but a lot of their canned stuff is being contract brewed stateside so the price point is a little ridiculous considering they are shipping it domestically. feel like you are just paying for the name at this point.

I find the same thing sometimes- I just found a year old "Raspberry TripleBock" on the shelves of a store the other day.

I love Mikkeller and find most of the brews to be awesome, despite the steep pricetag. I def. seek them out when I can. I especially love all of the "Beer Geek Breakfast" variants- there are tons.

Mikkeller makes some nice stuff (and some crappy stuff), but I don't think they're worth the price.

I agree, I tried the cocoa shake and vanilla shake and thought they were great, bordering on world class.

I think Mikkeller is an easy brewery to hate on, but I absolutely love them, and know what I am getting myself into when I fork out a good sum of money for their beers. (Not every single one is going to blow you away.) Overall I am very happy with the overall product being offered.

Haha you gotta love and appreciate the creativity with the naming of their beers. (And the artwork.)

Very valid points. I agree that local options can be much more worth it. I would say thought, that Mikkeller has some great stuff, and many more are worth seeking out than the most popular ones. The pricetag can def. be a deterrent for many.

For twins that don't really get along with each other, they sure are both proud of their beer.
