Heading down their for a week or so. Any ideas on local brews to try or pubs to visit be greatly appreciated.

As for MD, Check out Heavy Seas (they have brew tours on Saturdays but you'll want to sign up in adv). Flying dog is a cool place too. I don't get to DC much but the Brickskellar (claim to have 1000 beers but many of them are unavailable at any given time) and RFD are both pretty decent.

Sad, but I believe the Brickskellar has since closed.

Do not go to the Brickskeller.

The Brick has been closed for well over a year now. The Bier Baron Tavern is now located in the old Brick location.

As Invinoveritas suggested, run a forum search for your topic. Your question comes up all the time and there are several recent, comprehensive threads for "best places to grab a beer" in Baltmore and DC. Also, while I agree Flying Dog is a cool place to visit (assuming they've resumed tours), it's located in Frederick, which is a bit of a hike from Baltimore and DC.

    Have fun.

Union Craft Brewing in Baltimore recently opened up their tasting room for tours, tastings and growler fills. Open 1pm-4pm on Saturdays.

I kinda want to check that out. I'm pleased to see they had the balls to put out an Altbier. I look forward to trying it.

Haven't had the altbier, but I have tried the duck pin pale ale. Given the goofy name and style (ANOTHER pale ale, for God's sake!), I wasn't expecting much. However, I thought it a surprisingly tasty, well made APA (IMHO).

I am also going to be in Maryland this weekend and heard a lot of good things about Brewer's Art in Baltimore, can anyone recommend on what to get there?

(I will also have some Heady Topper with me if anyone is interested in an IP trade).

Last time I was at BA, I drank a ton of their Proletary, then had the mussels and thyme fries. Good stuff.

I also want to try Of Love & Regret (the bar, not the beer)

Just keep in mind 1) maybe this will change in the future, but at present the on-line draft list is not updated very often. Typically it seems as if there is always 8 or 9 Stillwater beers and Stillwater collaborations on tap, but that's about the only thing you can count on in terms of the draft list; 2) prices are on the high side here (all the stillwater beers seem to be in the $7 to $9 range for a 10 ounce or 12 ounce pour), and I thought the food portions a bit small (at least for what you're paying).

I had an OK time the last time I visited; I just thought the $40 price tag was a bit hight for soup and an appetizer, and then two 12 ounce beers and one 10 ounce beer. That being said, I highly recommend anyone who hasn't been there to go, especially if you are a fan of Stillwater beers.

    Ouch.

I'd rather do the mussels ($12) & thyme fries ($5).

I'm with you on this. Brewer's Art is the place that I think most closely compares to OLAR from a food standpoint, and IMHO, the food at BA is at least as good as what you can find at OLAR and it's considerably cheaper (as are their beers).

Plus, there are happy hour pricing on beers if you get there a bit early.

That being said, you can't get crispy pig ears at Brewer's Art. You can get a bit Andrew Zimmern at OLAR.
