Why do people continue to show up at opening and expect to just walk in? Every single time, people show up an hour or two later and there is almost no line.

It is like people think JK owes them something because they drove out there. What were you expecting?

Honestly Andrew I think you're beating a dead horse-
    1) it's the Internet, people, usually the minority say what they want in the most obnoxious "loud" attention seeking way
    2) but the majority usually carries the sentiment of good faith and knows the truth
    3) in front of the keyboard when no one is around people get the courage of a lion... But the stupidity of a lemming
    4) in this particular thread, I feel like those that were "louder" didn't hesitate to acknowledge a good thing- and that's what I think is cool.
    5) let this one go. No one [the majority] gives a shit, & you and I both know, we especially don't.

Um... did anyone actually try it??

Only half joking here... but probably 75 posts and nothing about the beer itself (unless I missed it). Chilling mine down to enjoy this weekend!

    Cheers

This line was not only the longest ever at JK when it wrapped around, toward Fitzhugh, but also much faster than Atrial, so JK must have improved something!

I saw familiar faces scattered through out the line, and had a nice talk with the people around me. It looked bad at first, but once it started moving, people started talking and it wasn't that bad
I'll admit I had an umbrella though, that was clutch.

It seemed if people showed up at 10 AM, they waited 2 hours, If you showed up between 11 AM and noon, you waited ~75-90 minutes. The people lining up towards Fitzhugh likely had to wait 90-120 minutes, but I don't think anyone had to wait over 2 hours.
I personally waited 75 minutes. Funny that the first people to show up waited the longest, but they had shade and probably good conversation.

Some turd parked in the driveway entry of the JK parking lot and was blocking the outbound lane to Fitzhugh. Not cool.

I was fortunate to sample O&P, Syrah, AR b4 and ShAtrial last night, and it makes you realize trading a lot of this stuff away is risky, when you're sending world class beer out for beer that might not be as good. ShAtrial was like fresh AR, but with a little more barrel and sherry sweetness, great beer.

Holy crap yes, people need to stop parking on the entry road, that's seriously getting to be a problem.

Don't understand why they do this. There's a huge GD field to park in.

in that lot, you basically park anywhere your car can fit. they sometimes don't open the field to open parking.

@Abbbp I think we were in line with you. Were you the one telling me about going to the different college football games every year?

I sure was partner. In fact my handle on here is abbreviated for the name of our annual college football trip- Annual Bryan Bell Bachelor Party. "On, Wisconsin!" this year...

That's cool. Always nice to meet someone from the website. I was the one in the black and white striped polo. Enjoy the trip and drink some good beers. Im sure I will see you back at JK soon

Well if JK if didn't make ridiculously good looking bottles in ridiculous small batches I'm sure those lines would dwindle. How about some more 500-1000+ case batches and draught only releases? It's like its become a brewery for traders and whale chasers only.

Yeah, overextend yourself so everyone can bitch about how JK used to be good.

Why would they change anything? There is plenty of time to grow, and they are basically printing money.

Sorry, Mr. Horse. I didn't notice you were dead.

Yeah but couldn't they be printing even more money...while making more good beer, without quality suffering....and keeping even MORE customers happy?? More money for the business + more customers happy = seems to me that's a win-win for everyone

Yes, I'm sure the beer itself has nothing to do with it.

We had 15 different beers of ours available to go at the start of Labor Day weekend, several of which have been on our menu for weeks. If you don't like any of those, that's fine. I can live with that.

Finally, if we emphasized draught over bottles, given our three to eighteen month fermentation times, we'd quickly go out of business. The margins we make off of bottles relative to draught is what keeps us afloat. - Jeff

Have you all ever considered a reserve society, like the Bruery has for instance?

  19. jesterkingbeer

    jesterkingbeer Pundit (865) Jun 28, 2010 Texas

We have in the past, but decided it would be too much work relative to the benefit we'd get out of it. We were also cautioned by a brewer we highly respect that a reserve society is like bringing new shareholders into your brewery, which isn't appealing to us either.
