It seems to be an option that sketchy people hide behind when they're messing up.

Not to detract too much from the OP but FWIW, I use some of the privacy options available to me because I value my privacy. While ne'er-do-wells can abuse the options, I don't think the rest of us should have to suffer for it. Even if they were gone or unavailable to the trading community, they wouldn't really help. A bad trader is going to be a bad trader whether or not he/she can "hide" from you.

@Todd Now if only the site were served over HTTPS...

@Heretic42 your profile isn't hidden. I'm a huge privacy freak but I seriously question why anyone needs to hide their basic profile showing trade history & fb, stats, posts and thread activity. To see the difference just look at user Troutmen, the trader referenced in this thread.

You've missed the point. Just because I don't use that particular privacy feature (and is why I said "some" of the options) does not mean I or others might not find it valuable as a privacy feature. And I don't want to get into "true Scotsman" territory, but a self-proclaimed privacy freak should be able to understand why "anyone" would want to use that particular feature.

Bringing it back to the OP, if the bad trader in question hadn't gone private, he'd still just have ignored any attempts at communication. You can see that with the numerous other bad trader threads.

The info I'd potentially valuable tio anyone considering doing a trace with him. This is especially true of more inexperienced users. Fb, good & bad, is earned. Troutmen (& others) should own it, not hide it away.

I have a question regarding when it shows someone is online. When I use the app I can see that I have messages and check them, but not the case for notifications. Could someone go on the app and it would show they were on but never see the notification? I am just playing devil's advocate. I know that these people are usually avoiding the threads, but just wanted to make sure there wasn't an alternative explanation.

    Hey Guys

I apologize for not responding sooner. I am not getting the email notifications for some reason. However, glad you are quick to slam someone's name. Seems anyone can get on here and ruin someone's reputation without actually screwing the other party over.

Trade request was accepted on both sides. There is no denying that. But when you cant send proof of your bottle when requested, then why should someone follow through on a trade? As far as I am concerned, the trade is dead when you dont provide the requested proof or provide an alternative to provide the proof in a timely manner. I provided proof of my bottles after I returned from the release. This is not my responsibility to help a "veteran" trader figure out how to use BA to send me a photo. If you've done 50+ trades, you should know how this system works. I'd rather hold onto my bottles and have you guys crucify me then potentially get screwed over. I'm not saying @Wehler is looking to pull one over, but someone with such an immaculate trading record should be able to figure out an alternative way to send a photo. This wasnt some BCS for KBS trade these are very rare/limited bottles on both sides.

Like everyone else, I have dealt with problem trades and the issues that come with them. I've done everything IN MY POWER to fix the issues if they were on my side. Shipments returned, people backed out and incorrect bottles brought to an IP trade. Regardless of what the other party did, I was happy to work out a resolution for any errors I caused. I have yet run into someone I've traded with that wasnt satisfied with the trade. But I've not slammed someone for backing out for whatever reason. That's their choice and if I couldnt provide the proof they wanted or they backed out and no bottles were sent. There is no harm because neither party is out of their original bottles.

    @F2brewers, @Todd, @blue-dream
One would figure upper management to have a little more control on the trigger before you label someone a bad trader.

@Troutmen - are you saying that part of the agreed to trade was to send pics to confirm the bottles prior to shipping? Did you communicate that to your trade partner (that until you are able to verify bottles you weren't comfortable to proceed)?

@Wehler - how about it? That doesn't seem like an unreasonable request for bottles such as these.

Seems like we're not getting the whole story here...possibly?

Somebody is going to need to post the entire private conversation, without edits, or there's the risk of multiple black eyes. Plus, I have this rope all ready to go, & now I don't know what to do with it.

I've said it before & I'll say it again. These situations when no beer is exchanged & someone gets called out rarely end well for either party. Good luck, gentlemen.

Lol, this seems a little weak.

@pagriley, no, we didn't agree on pics from the get go, he said we should exchange pics midway through the talks. And no, even when the subject of pics was raised, he did not say he wouldn't send without pics.

I did tell him I had never added pics to a BA conversation and that I would happily email or text him pictures, an offer to which he did not reply. We began working our deal on Aug 15. Our talks stalled a bit on Aug 21. I reached out on Aug 31 to inquire if we were moving forward. Later that night, he offered to send a picture and asked if I would do the same. I told him that same evening that I wasn't sure how to add a photo and the following morning, I messaged him stating that I would be happy to email or text a pic. Sept 2 I sent my info in good faith that we were all set and he was just busy. Sept 4 I messaged saying it seemed things had fallen apart.

To sum it up, he sent his pic on Aug 31 and i messaged 5 more times with zero communication. Yes, I have 50+ trades on BA. Yes, having never been asked to send pics through BA, I do not know how to attach them. I guess what I'm saying is that if an alternative method of sharing a picture really was a deal breaker, might you have simply stated that? Why it took 10 days to get a response and the response only came due to threat of negative feedback tells everything one needs to know.

I would like the mods to copy our entire conversation here for everyones review, if that is possible. You'll see that I offered "an alternative to provide proof".

@Troutmen, whether you changed your mind about the trade or if my inability to send a pic through BA was such an overwhelming fail that it caused our deal to crumble, all you had to do was say it.

If our peers wish to see the entire, unedited conversation, let's make it happen.

@Wehler - offering to email or text pics seems totally reasonable. I have never been asked to do something like that, but for a whale, I can understand, and would be happy if someone offered to text it to me.

@Wehler please post the conversation in its entirety.

I've never been asked for pix for which I'm grateful because I struggle posting the damned things. IF it was necessary I'm sure that I could although I'd rather just ship 1st. Note, by my definition 'shipping first' means the other party doesn't ship until mine have arrived. That's at least as secure as pix.

I've had a couple of new traders offer to send me pix but they were shipping 1st so I declined.

Had the infamous Herb been requested to send pix I'm certain that he could have & possibly would have. I'll stick with requiring that new traders ship 1st. IF someone has extensive trade history but something doesn't feel right I'll just pass.
