Goose Island Oktoberfest Cheers you all and Happy Thirsty Thursday to you!

Their tasting notes say toffee and and burnt sugar and that sounds terrible already on apricot and hallertau hops which does sound good. Even Shiners successful variation on the oktoberfest which showed caramel on a spicy and colorful hop flavor was quite out of style. It smells lightly of dried apricot with a slight tartness. Malt is soft and I don't smell toffee so I am glad. Head is tan creamy and falls well to a film on top. Dry herbal hop is on the nose.

Caramel apricot and hop spice. Very juicy and open malt palate. There's a tart explosion of flavor from the middle of the beer with an open malt softness that does show a touch of toastiness and that is a main style point. Carbonation makes this one tingle a bit. This is a good variation on the oktoberfest imo. It's refreshing. Can you say refreshing about the oktoberfest? I bet that is from a complimentary bitterness from hops.

The beer actually dries out on the palate while a crisp tartness lingers with apricot flavor. Spicy finish with a bit of warmth from the abv which is too high for the style. It drinks sweeter because it's a bigger beer. Toffee does develop but it still tastes good.

The caramel does get a bit stiff so the mouthfeel is fuller than the oktoberfest should be. Sweet again with the taste of light brown sugar and apricot. Too much residual sugar to be an oktoberfest.

I am planning on having a few more of these actually.

fine. a bit less on the cinnamon nutmeg imho, (to my liking). caveat, the particular bottle has been in the beer-fridge since purchase. i have a cellared set buried but can't yet comment on those.

Woke up with a sore throat, so having this concoction :

The alcohol is nice and warms the throat. It gives the Hot Cocoa a bit of a soda pop quality to it, which I'm not quite sure I'm a fan of.
