i have doubts about this statement. i thought FW was using HH barrels? is there any link or other credible info/source where this belief is substantiated?

I think the official conclusion was that they were not just Heaven Hill barrels, but a blend using Heaven Hill barrels and fiction.

Black Ops is Woodford Reserve barrels. They did use PVW barrels for Local 11 and Nine Pin, which were made for and sold exclusively by 11 Madison Park. That being said, they were stupidly expensive, so they'll be available for a while.

I could be wrong, but I believe Block 15 Super Nebula was PvW as well. Does anyone out there know for sure?

Great point. I was always curious how exactly one would know if a barrel was actually used to create a Pappy blend or which distillery the barrel would be from (assuming it was used for PVW). Pappy, after all, doesn't actually distill any whiskey and never has. Their whiskey's are a combination of Buffalo Trace, Bernheim, or Stitzel-Weller distilled whiskeys. Their rye whiskey's haven't been pulled out of an actual barrel in some time, so the odds of those barrels still being around for purchase is unlikely.

More to the point, PVW beers might actually be aged in barrels used for PVW whiskey production, but there's no way to know what distillery or what the source whiskey was. You could put this collection together but one beer versus the next might not even have been aged by barrels from the same distillery so the barrel notes wouldn't be consistent across them all.

All the same, the beers themselves would be a fine collection and would certainly make for a fantastic tasting. Good luck sourcing them all.

not going to say i know more than them - i'd ask you these sensible questions though:

    1. at this stage in the Pappy Van Anything game, do you think it would not be plastered all over the bottle & the FW Parabola description page if the 12 release saw time in identifiable "Pappy" barrels? i suppose FW could be ultra modest or whatever, but that seems like a wasted golden promotional op.

    2. besides Churchkey wouldn't other pubs have that tid bit sandblasted in their menus? maybe they do. admittedly i don't get out that much. i'm still pretty sure the barrels FW uses are provided by HH. maybe they got a hold of some Bernheim related barrels under HH that were allegedly dumped & supplied some "Pappy" iteration?
