After a fairly disappointing Evil Twin offering I have moved along to a seemingly popular Stone brew in their Thunderstruck (finally - thank you NC!)

Straight away I've got a nose full of earthy and hearty dank oniony thing that translates almost identically to the taste, but here is where nose and taste go their own way as the taste includes a grassy component before an almost medicinal quality pops up. Not astringent, but sorta like cough syrup but not in a bad way. Malt bill is what you'd expect from Stone as it provides a depth, fullness and balance without being overly demanding. Full bodied, no cloying qualities despite a fairly lingering aftertaste.

I "liked" your Thunderstruck post earlier but I didn't read it so as not to be influenced. Just read it and it was nice to see you confirmed a lot for me about it...including that bit of onion. :grinning:

Exactly. I was out in the yard a few moments ago and realized Ducks, not Islanders. Good one and I knew I was close, but missed. What were the other teams besides Greensboro, Charlotte, Johnstown, and Long Island? It's getting fuzzy.

New Belgian Strong Golden Ale Mail Sunday!

The work day started the usual fashion today...(Hostile!) yet it got better as the day progressed. Beer is the only thing that keeps me from decapitating the rest of my fellow humans. Well enough of the jibber-jabber, let's get into the brew!

This was courtesy of a FaceBook name drawing, @utopiajane can explain the details. I lucked out first time in my life I said something about it on WBAYDN this past Friday. Ok, ok time to describe the brew. First this brew pours aight. Nice cloudy golden blonde body with a very faint white head...:slight_frown:. When I see anything with the word "Belgian" I except it to have a lively head. A little disappointed in the appearance but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Now for the aroma! Simple fruity notes (Pears and Apples) dominate the initial whiff. Second wave of sweet honey and maybe hints of rustic wheat? Slightly floral notes of dried grass on the deep backend. Smells pretty legit.

Flavor brings the honey and wheat sweetness to live and up front. Second wave of fruity esters hit mid palate with nice notes of under ripped Pear meat and subtle Orange citrus in there as well. Nice spicy note toward the finish, bringing in a new level of enjoyment. This finishes semi-dry and hints of wheat crackers in the aftertaste. The feel on the palate is pretty impressive for an American Brewer making a Belgian Style brew. Very light playful body with lively Carbonation.

Overall: This is pretty on point in the aroma and flavor department. For a minute I actually forgot an American Brewery had put this brew together. I am a skeptic when any American Brewer tries their take on a Belgian Style Ale. They're either too sweet and lacking that touch of yeasty perfection. Or they're not Carbonated enough to help the flavor to explode on the palate. This one is believe all to the style. The appearance is a set back, yet just a minor set back. Not enough to say that the experience was worth the wait. I really dig this brew, I wish I had easier access to Russian River. This Brew is Recommended!

    Grade: A

Cheers my fellow New Beer Sunday Crew!

500 ml bottle, 2014, poured into a teku

A- A hazy golden color with a three finger white head.

S- Funky, tart, grape/white wine, some oak.

T- Tart, grapes, white wine, slightly oaky, nice barnyard funky finish, touch of wheat, nicely balanced.

    M- Smooth, lighter body, dry.

O- First beer from Wicked Weed and a good one. This is a nice barrel aged saison, I feel it is more of a tart saison compared to a wild ale. Easy drinking, well done. Feel the taste could be bigger, but no flaws with this.

    New DIPA Sunday

Back for a rare 2nd contribution on a NBS. The day has played out well in all sorts of ways allowing this. Still lovely here. Getting some outside work done (that going through the garden and taking out the summer plants and leaving the meager remains).
Another can't go wrong beer from New Glarus. Nothing brilliant, just lots of parts done right. I'm glad the brewery is next door so I can pick them up a few times per year.

Well I'm back with my second beer for this NBS Founders Redankulous an Imperial Red IPA.
This beer poured a very dark brownish color into my tulip glass. Probably about a 38 on Maria's scale.
There is some malty aroma in the nose with the background a mixture of floral and some piney aroma's.
The taste of this beer kind of leaves my palate confused. It has a smooth taste nothing unpleasant but there is nothing that really jumps to the front and grabs my taste buds.
The mouth feel is smooth and the right carbonation with no aftertaste.
All in all not a badly done beer. Not to the real flavors of my personal taste.
I will admit to being recently biased by finding a really great IMO Red IPA while camping in Maine last weekend that to me truly surpassed this offering from Founders. It was Boothbay Craft Brewery Dexter Rippa Red IPA.

    Hello everybody!!! Great posts today...
On this beautiful Sunday here in the low country it's a somewhat cool day signifying fall is near!
Watching the ravens games got some ribs cooking and decided to try a new beer for nbs.
Let me start by saying I'm not a stout fan but I do pick one up every once and awhile..
Decided to grab a collab between prairie/brew fist out of Italy their "spaghetti western" it's a stout brewed with coffee, cocoa nibs and spaghetti??!?..yeahhh Like wtf....:astonished:
Seems gimmicky.. but was cheap enough to justify.

Pours a dark as night black with a foamy tan head that looked delightful tbh..
Smell is a deep dark chocolate with a fading coffee smell maybe some bitterness?
Taste is about what I expect from the smell a thick dark chocolate bitterness with hint of coffee lingering
Not much more seems rather one sided..... thank God the spaghetti doesn't come through tho!!
Has a thick oily feel I'm not very fond of...
Overall a typical coffee/chocolate stout imo not much to rave about.
Still glad I gave it a try as like I said I don't buy stouts often so is a Nice change up

    Anywerds happy nbs everyone!

many thanks to my brother @Shroud0fdoom for sending this my way
    [IMG]
16.9 oz bottle poured into a snifter

A: brackish nice red hue to the edges of the glass and caramel color hazy small soapy tan head that drops to a film on the top of the beer

S: vinegar and grapes with a little bit of caramel has a little bit of a sweet smell to it almost a little bit of a brandy port smell

T: vinegar but muted lots of tannin flavors you get from wine drinks a lot like a mead I can't pick out that many barrel notes just the wine characteristics with a lot of caramel malts but muted by the vinegar so they aren't too sweet

M: Thick body its almost syrupy but not quite the alcohol is very well hidden

O: Very different I am glad I got to try it but I'm not quite sure I am thrilled by it. Huge body on the beer almost chewy the flavors seem muddled though and I can not believe this is 14% because it drinks so smooth very easy going down. Reminds me a lot of a homemade mead.

Walked over to the bro's to share a bottle. I made an Illinois beer run on Friday and added this to my purchase namely because I couldn't pass up at $7.99 for the bomber. Bottle date is not discernible as it's smudged, but I'm sure it's fresh as Alesmith just recently landed in Illinois.

It pours a semi clear gold with a finger of white foam. The aroma is onion forward with some pine and mild perfume. Flavor is pine forward with some onion and malt in the finish. Mouthfeel is dry and bitter.

Overall a good beer for the price, but nothing earth shattering in my opinion. I'll put my money towards more Spoedway stout and drink better IPA's that are available.

This may be my last, have a great week. Link to review......

What's up NBS. I'm taking a slight break from all the great sports action today. Got to enjoy a nice Jets victory, and the mets just keep rolling along. Overall a pretty nice day here on the island with fall starting to show its teeth.

My new beer is Citra Ass Down, from Against the Grain Brewery. Not sure how old it is but since the cans just showed up I'm assuming its fairly fresh. Citra hops seem to be all the rage lately and I do enjoy them so here goes.

Pours out a sweet and light looking amber color with slight orange tones. A hoppy nose with definite citrus notes but not terribly floral. The drinking starts by carrying right over from the nose. Hoppy, sweet, and more citrus notes. I really get some fruity tones of mango and apricots Slightly bitter on the finish with a nice hop punch to the face. Mouth feel is slightly sticky and smooth like candy.

Overall, not the best citra ipa I've had but still a very enjoyable beer. The 87 ba score seems spot on and I'm in the low 4's all around.

Good afternoon BAs. Today's new beer for me is from Avery's Botanicals and Barrels line. This is the Raspberry sour that has been aged in oak barrels.

    L: 4; S: 4.25; T: 4; F: 4; O: 4. Avg: 4.06

This one definitely brings the funky lacto characteristics backed up by the tart raspberry characteristics. I also pick up the wood fromthe barrels to go with some leather and horse blanket funkiness. This one isn't up there with the best wild ales, but it is still quite good. I may have to go and get some more at Yankee Spirits in Attleboro, Ma.

    Cheers BAs.

Happy NBSers! Went on a short hike, met a couple from France visiting GJ and the area, mountain biking. Nice sunny, upper 80s on the Western Slopes. A lot of people did not care for this brew, but I did, pretty tasty, quite different.
