Well said. And I'll just throw out there Brutal Bitter as an example, has a BA score of 90 and thats with the negativity factor thrown in, pretty decent score! I enjoy quite a few of their offerings because the brewery is so close and they really do treat the locals nice.

I just hate their prices. The gimmicky beers aren't my thing, but they make some good standards for sure. Do I buy them? No, not ever. It's always being sold for about 2x what I deem their worth.

Exactly right, such is the plight of the PA beer buyer. Everytime I see someone posting about a $13 12pk of sierra nevada I die a little inside, cause that is not happening here. With Rogue, it's a matter of their beers being too expensive to justify a purchase.

I agree. The only time I drink Rogue is when it is on tap somewhere. Rarely do I purchase bottles. I guess I just don't have the hate for them that everybody else days, but then again, everybody has their thing.

The Hazelnut Brown was one of the beers that got me into craft, and it's still one of my favorites. I don't like Dead Guy as much as I used to, but the Hazelnut Brown holds up.

I've never had Heddy Topper but at least I have a reason. Order one on tap, you may be surprised

Rogue should make an afrokaze beer called blunt & accurate. Why you would make a beer for someone who has a track record of saying things that at the bare minimum are racially insensitivity if not full blown racism is beyond me. Unless rogue is trying to make fun of him somehow I don't see the point.

If you've had to choke down or toss everything you've had by them, then either: A) you've only had about two of their beers - in which case you're being a little quick to judge, or B) you have some self-loathing buying habits and you need to start listening to your "fool me twice" thinking.

Their prices are what gall me. I like beers like Hazelnut Brown, Chocolate atout and Dead Guy, but the asking price doesnt justify the quality of the beer. At $13.99 a six pack, i gotta take a pass.

Why are people saying Uncle Colin is racist?

I didn't say every beer that they make is a drain pour, I said every beer I've had from them I either "choked down" (which admittedly is a dysphemism for "I didn't like it all that much") or drain-poured (I believe the only beer of theirs I actually poured out was their Chipotle Ale, which, if memory serves, reminded me of my spit after chewing tobacco). I even went on to say that, chances are, they probably do make a few beers I would enjoy. But I don't have a need to like Rogue, I just want to drink beer I enjoy, so I'm not going to sift through their entire line-up to find something I enjoy, after I've already had numerous bad experiences, when there is a multide of beers out there I know I do enjoy, or haven't already had bad experiences with. I haven't had anything from Rogue for about 4 years, but eventually I will try something of theirs again (4 years ago I didn't like stouts, a style which seems to be right in Rogue's wheelhouse, so maybe I'll be delighted when I give them another chance). I had just wanted to point out that my own individual dislike of Rogue wasn't part of some groupthink or "snowballing outrage" as I believe you put it. My dislike of Rogue was formed independently many years before I ever lurked on beeradvocate or any other beercentric website, but it is a view that seems somewhat validated when I see the opinions of a number of other members within this community.

A reasonable thread started to talk about a new beer related to a sports personality spirals to Rogue hate.

By the 5th post. Glad to see some informed comment following.

 A generalization on my part but here it goes: Some of the naysayers on these threads have become jaded just from reading posts and I suspect many have never even tried some the beers/brewers they criticize. STOP IT

It's Beer Advocate, not Beer Bandwagon.

Colin Cowherd, like Skip Bayless and many others, are paid for their "hot-takes" on sports and other related topics. Most serious sports fans think they're either ignorant and unaware or pure ratings fiends saying whatever will get them the most viewers.

Colin being super awkward to Kate Upton: http://deadspin.com/5885390/kate-up...asks-what-shes-wearing-how-much-she-gets-paid

The reason he was fired by ESPN in July: http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/...addresses-air-remarks-made-dominican-republic

He says things to get viewers, that's his job. i'm not a huge fan of PC and ESPN loves to keep itself "clean" so it's a no-brainer they fire who they fire, Colin is just one of many.

With that being said Rogue is taking a somewhat "bold" approach with who they are aligning themselves with. Colin is either loved or hated. It's an English Bitter ale which is a pretty inoffensive style of beer, most people would find it not too hoppy or strong. It's a beer that most people could drink, regardless of their taste preference. Colin does have a following, "The Herd", so it's an approachable style trying to attract his many fans (maybe that is their intention).

Long post but i'm bored. I liked the Rogue beers i've had in the past, no complaints here. Long story short, I find Colin to be annoying and I scoff at many of the foolish comments he makes but I would try this beer. free speech and good beer and all that

Good to see other people who aren't 'serious sports fans' on the site:wink:
None of what was said even remotely seems racist. I guess if I were from the DR, I'd be butt hurt though. Then again, the uneducated may not know the difference between fact-based commentary and racism.
