The oxidation involved in barrel aging is never a good thing for hops, so I would almost guarantee that the vast majority of hops will go into this beer after it's pulled out of the barrel. It will be interesting to see how much hops they use and which varieties to pair with the maple bourbon. Sounds intriguing...

Damn, wasting those magical barrels on one of the worst styles out there. Guess I'll have to buy a few and age out the hops

I've done my own home experiments with maple and IPAs, and though I've never aged any IPAs in maple barrels, just pairing maple with certain hops has turned out to be uber delicious, so I'm excited for this one.

I'm hoping the hops expire much faster than the maple haha

Agreed. Seems like an aged Black IPA just becomes a stout though.

Coconut Pancakes would be a nice complement.

Coconut pancakes just sound good in general. I'll have to try that sometime.

Not a stupid question. Nobody should want to age an IPA.

Black IPAs are decent, but aged in Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrels? Come on, Founders.

At this point I'm not sure what some of you want from Founder's Backstage Series.... A black IPA aged in maple bourbon barrels sounds fantastic to me. Count me in.

    Cmon @Doogflaggat.

Are we supposed to take The opinion of what should and shouldn't be done with beer from you or from Founders?

What's your nationally revered brewery called again?

A black IPA. In barrels first used for maple syrup then bourbon.

I'm up for anything once, but I've just never had a black IPA blow me away, and adding to hop resin sweetness with bourbon and tree nectar, I hope this just doesn't remind me of tar. Well... Founder's hasn't released a bad beer yet into Texas.

I agree. But I'd agree that anything other than an IPA should go into maple syrup bourbon barrels. almost any other style. Put a lambic in there and see what happens.
