I'll be visiting Candler/Asheville from northern Indiana August 16-20 and I was hoping for some insight on the best shops/restaurants for local beer or just a big beer selection in general. I plan on stopping by Bruisin' Ales, Appalachian Vintner, and Barley's Tap Room but was curious to know of any other places to check out while in town. Thanks for any info -To stay true to the title, yes I plan on bringing a case or 2 or 3 of fresh 3Floyds if anyone is interested. I can make a trip to the pub and pickup whatever they have available if anyone wants to set up a trade. I can also get stuff closer to me that has been distributed and not currently availble at the pub (Panzer wolf, dreadnaught, apocalypse cow, blackheart) I can bring not only 3floyds but other locals/stuff from my personal stash. I know this isn't the trade forum but I tried before and that didn't get me anywhere. Thanks for any help/interests
Well, you already mentioned a couple places that I usually recommend...Barley's is solid and the Appalachian Vintner will be your most important stop while you're in town. Aside from those two, make sure you spend many hours at the Thirsty Monk. Also go to Dirty Jacks, which is the tasting room at the Greenman Brewery. Awesome little bar. Wedge Brewery is one of the better spots in town as well. You can drive about 20 minutes East and go to Pisgah, but I warn people that they'll be underwhelmed 9 times out of 10. As far as breweries go, I'd focus on Greenman, Wedge, French Broad Brewery and the Thirsty Monk South location. Monk South is a bit outside of downtown but they are brewing some of the best beer in Asheville right now. Maybe the best.. I'll BM you about a trade, definately interested. Cheers!
Sounds good, I think we'll for sure try the Monk south and a few other spots you named, I appreciate the help and looking forward to setting up a trade(s)
commis pretty much hit the nail on the head on all accounts. Enjoy your trip down and shoot me a BM as I MIGHT be in town that weekend as well. Cheers!
Thanks for the help guys, looking forward to trying some great local brews and bringing some back home
Dont miss Olde Hickory brews. Right now they have a sour-ish saison (Southern Belle). You might still find Saison Gee (Chardonnay aged saison).
Saison Gee is still on the floor in Greensboro, so I'd assume it's still around. Try Wedge while your there too. Asheville is a great cool bar town, but the local stuff is average. You'll have a good time , good music and food, but there isn't a local available you'll want to stock up on.
Respectfully disagree. I would return to northern Indiana with Geen Man ESB (if they bottle it, GM started bottling relatively recently), which is one of the best american takes on a british ESB I've ever had. I also think you might want to bring back some of GM's reformulated IPA, which is quite nice. If you hit are able, acquire and return with soem of Pisgah's brews, too. A number of Asheville's better beers are not bottled, unfortunately. The city is a true craft beer town. BTW, had a 2011 Dark Lord a few weeks ago up in WI, and it was teeth-rattlingly sweet and delicious.
Pisgah is one I definitely want to learn more about, along with many other companies down there. I have'12 dark lord for the right trade. Look forward to my trip
Southern Belle? Is this brand new, or do you mean Southern Cross? Southern Cross is their hoppy pilsener.just released a few weeks ago.
