Why were you thinking that? You had gotten bottles; nobody has reported a decline in the stuff coming out of Alpine. Believe me, once the bottles start rolling out of Mira Mesa you'll see a thousand posts on it, and that they won't be able to keep secret. LOL

My expectation wasn't due to the underwhelming GF stuff that has been coming out lately. Although, I have tasted that stuff and it has been all sorts of horrible.

I guess my expectation came out of not drinking the beer for a while and thinking it wasn't going to be as good as it was initially. I don't get the chance to buy bottles often so I have limited exposure to the true Alpine. When I first drank Nelson I thought it was the best thing I had ever tasted and that feeling did not diminish upon the new tasting.

I have had the experience with other beers, such as Pliny, where I was blown away at first but after drinking it several more times it did not have the same affect. I guess Alpine is just a special breed.

I'm hoping that all the GF versions come in the GF bottle and all Alpine versions don't. That will make the world a better place.

If we would have to start second guessing the BOTTLES now when we pick them up from the brewery in Alpine, that will just about be the icing on the cake. What will happen to their suggested solution of "sampling" before buying and if you like it buy it?

Any definitive confirmation on the label yet? Does the LABEL in the picture still say brewed in Alpine, CA on the back?

I don't think it *can* say that. It will probably say San Diego. FWIW, the Alpine Duet bottles did not say "India Pale Ale" on the bottom.

Rumor has it that the Green Flash bottles will not be sold at the brewery itself, but then again rumor had it that the kegs from Green Flash would never make it up the mountain and we saw what happened with that.

I am more concerned about the bottles (glass with the green flash embossment, since they merged but I don't know all of the little details) and labels becoming the norm in Alpine even if it was brewed in Alpine. Since technically Alpine is still in San Diego County, I don't know if they could get away with changing all labels to San Diego, CA.

I think they have to print the city of origin, not the county. However, they could do something akin to Sierra Nevada's labels since they opened in Mills River, NC. So "Brewed and Bottled in Alpine, CA & San Diego, CA." If they do that and start using the same bottles, there won't be any way to know.

You have to put where it's bottled at so I'm not too worried. I think you also have to put the bonded brewery that it's bottled/brewed at as well on the back label

The GF label says brewed and bottled by Alpine Beer Company in San Diego California on the left side. Alpine's says brewed & bottled by Alpine Beer Co. Alpine, CA on the right side. GF versions also give the style under the name. So with the different labels and maybe bottles we should be able to know where it truly came from.

I've checked out on this thread for quite some time but have been meaning to head back to Alpine (gotta get me another buffalo chicken sandwich.... and beer) for a bit. Is the general consensus that the pub out in the hills is still kick ass despite all the GF business? Also, I can't remember but do they do blank growlers or only ABC branded? Already booked a hotel so I suppose it doesn't matter haha. Cheers

I was told that when GF starts bottling Alpine beers it will have to say brew'd/bottle at GF.

Pub is mostly good. Been there a few times, prices are up on food. Beers have been solid, but I could have sworn a week or two ago they were pouring GF Nelson. Pure Hop, Duet, Hoppy Birthday all on point though each time. I don't tend to get any others unless it is a special release like baby face, obriens, etc.

Alpine growlers only. Can't get bottles at the pub anymore when the brewery is closed so you'll have to go up the street, but they are open on Sundays now. Bottles from the brewery are all genuine alpine (for now). Someone else will have to chime in to let you know if growler fills of nelson, pure hop, duet and HB have all been genuine as well. I play safe with the bottles.

    Enjoy your time there!

Awesome, thanks for the intel. I'm heading out on Friday 11/6 and staying the night which happens to coincide with the start of SD beer week. Here's hoping they have special things in the works.
