I don't know if it was sold illegally, but I know it was on the shelf for sure, I feel like a very small amount was distro'd because I thought people found it at Woodmans (grocery store chain) and that does not seem like the type of place to buy it online and put it on the shelf.

I have seen these bottles in the past at 2 different liquor stores at least 200 miles apart. I would assume that they were distributed. Neither store was a Woodmans.

oddly the BA Alesmith beers are usually turding it up on the shelves all over Wisconsin

AleSmith must of pulled from the back of the store room when they started distributing to Chicagoland area.
You guys were right about old bottles. I was at a Hyvee in Dekalb this afternoon and just took a peek at their AleSmith bombers. No IPA but the X and ESB had brew dates of 10/14 and 11/13!!! Two year old pale ale....give me a break.

Speedway was from 7/15 at least

Alesmith has been available in Dekalb since 2013 maybe? I think Rockford & Kankakee too. So blame the stores in Dekalb for those old bottles. This latest entry by Alesmith is for the Chicagoland area.

My bad then, if so. I have not seen AleSmith in Dekalb before last week but I only work out there and rarely go beer hunting (or anything else for that matter) there. AleSmith just made it to my home in the western suburbs last week also so I thought that include Dekalb just 40 mins further west.

Yeah check the stores in the Western Burbs then. I bet those bottle dates are reasonable. Grab the IPA if you can, I thought it was pretty decent. Was bottled 8/24 I think. Haven't had the others though.

Oh yea, I have. I grabbed some IPA and Speeway last week in Glen Ellyn. I thought both were very solid. Of course the dates on all of them were nothing but yellow smudges of ink but the IPA tasted pretty fresh.

Alesmith has been in Rockford and Dekalb for quite some time. There were issues with distributors (Chicago area and near 'burbs), which is why they weren't here already. I sat next to an Alesmith employee on a flight from San Diego last year. He gave me the low down.

Thanks for the heads up. Had no clue and I'm in Dekalb all the time. It apparently doesn't sell well there then, that's for sure!

Pretty sure it was in all of Illinois but the Chicago area for years. I would pick up their IPA when visiting my family in central IL for the last few years. Glad it's here now, though!

I wonder if their .394 Pale Ale will come to Chicago soon. I tried asking them via email and twitter and I get no response.

Sadly it what's I expected. The only IPA bombers I find now are from November.

I had the 394 on tap at The House Pub in St Charles on Saturday. I've been on the hunt for the IPA but 2 months old is the best I can find and I want to try it fresh for the first time

When they hit Wisconsin everything was very fresh for the first 2-3 shipments. Then it stopped selling. We've consistently had 3-8+ month old bottles of everything from Alesmith on the shelves since then. Seems they got lost in the explosion of distributed beers here.
