eh, I have yet to have what I'd consider a competitive hoppy beer from them. Didn't care for any of the original IPAs/latitude or any of the Rebel series. Sierra Nevada blows them out of the water for the same price and availability. They are pioneers that keep doing new things and hitting homeruns, why can't Sam Adams? Jim Koch, that's why.

I am afraid that this won't taste as good as it sounds.

Maybe a grapefruit garnish will help make it taste better...oh wait....that's another breweries gimmick.
    My bad.

LOL if people abandoning sculpin in droves and being put off by ballast point's obnoxious prices while their california contemporaries make better beer for cheaper didn't faze them i doubt this will. grapefruit sculpin is what all other grapefruit beer is going for and sells out like it has crack in it where i live which is 3000 miles from the brewery. as long as they can put out 1 big winner for every 5 or 6 "this shit is 16 dollars a sixpack?" beer i don't think they are going to change.

Hopefully it's nothing like that magic hat electric peel "grapefruit ipa" that beer was horrible.

Yes, alot of breweries have jumped on the IPA bandwagon but since this thread is about Samuel Adams Rebel Grapefruit IPA and not all IPAs I don't see how you can say I am singling them out.

There's a recent Shafly grapefruit ipa thread and there was a much more welcoming reception here.

Not particularly "hating" on SA, I just think their IPAs aren't very good, but I did think the Latitude Deconstructed packs were interesting. As far as dumping juice in my beer, no thank you. If you want to try a beer that truly screams "grapefruit juice" and made with nothing but water, yeast, hops and grain, get your hands on some Headroom by Trillium. Oh my!

Thy already did single hopped IPAs when they did that mixed pack that deconstructed the Latitude 48 IPA.

I'm generally not into grapefruit or other fruited beers. I just know that every time there's a thread with the title "Sam Adams..." we can expect at least half of the comments to be from people saying they can't wait to NOT try it. There's always at that one guy that says "Jim Koch said he'd never brew an ipa, so I'll never drink any of their beers again" and then someone using the word craft beer in air quotes when describing them. There's also the folks that come in to read about something that interests them from a brewery they like. I love BA! It's a melting pot of internet forum stereotypes! :grinning:

If it shows up in my liquor store as a mix-6 option I'd buy one to try it. Otherwise, probably would skip the 6 pack

I like Sam Adams and a lot of the stuff they do. My problem is with Sam Adams specifically, it's with the world today in general, craft beer included. There are very few that are original anymore. Someone creates something good and rather than the competition trying to create something even better, they copy the "good" thing. Monkey see, monkey do. I don't know, maybe I'm overreacting. Maybe Sam Adams grapefruit IPA will indeed be better than GF Sculpin, then my argument is all crap.

If you are a fan of grapefruit IPA's then I hope everyone here on BA gives Sam Adams at least a sample try of it as every brewer deserves a fair unbiased review.

Why not? I will give it a try, the only thing that is a little off putting is the added juice. I'm sure it wont be the worst beer I've had, I'm just wondering on the timing of it. Is there beer over hyped? Sure, but some times the quality for the price is competitive.

Thanks, I wasn't aware they made a gose in 2012...but that's before it was cool! They need to get back on the bandwagon now!

They still make one every year called 26.2. Draft only, all around Boston around the time of the marathon

I'm surprised it took SA this long, honestly. While I try about anything from them, grapefruit IPA s are just not my thing.

Hmm...then they need to make a mass-distributed gose in 2016 for all of us non-Bostonians.
