I really don't get pumping IPAs with grapefruit when hops can flawlessly produce grapefruit flavors. Not sort of like grapefruit, but near exact.

    This is a lame trend

Some of those sound like they could be good.

Anyone know if this is just Rebel IPA with grapefruit juice and peels added or is it a different IPA recipe than the normal Rebel?

"Lucky" for me, able to pick up 12 packs of GF Sculpin at Costco for a mere $22! (=$10.99/6. And I still hesitate.)

IBUs have been upped from 45 to 52 so I would guess a little tweaking went into it.

I'm not going to gripe about lack of innovation or bandwagoning. I don't think a brewery of any size has to be a trendsetter or a risk taker. They do, however, have to make good beer and if this Grapefruit IPA is based on the Rebel recipe then I'm going to pass.

It is funny how two different breweries can release a similar style beer at the same time and yet, SA is the one that receives a ton of flack for it. Meanwhile, Schlafly is receiving a mostly welcoming response to their Grapefruit IPA. Whether people want to admit it or not, this pretty clearly proves that if it has the Sam Adams name attached to it, it will be receiving a lot of negative response. At least as far as this site is concerned.

The hate is well deserved. I haven't had one new beer from them in the last few years that I thought was above average. I've had plenty that were below average. The new holiday stuff they put out is way over spiced. All the saison's they've done were pretty garbage. Kolschs/Pilsners uninspired and bland. The IPAs... just give up. I laughed with they brought the Rebel series to EBF/ACBF. While I normally am not impressed by their IPAs, they had no chance against the level of quality IPAs there.

I like the fact that I can get their standard lagers everywhere (and they are enjoyable), but they really haven't done anything in a decade in my eyes.

If Rebel IPA with Grapefuit tastes anything like GF Sculpin then we will see it begin to sit on shelves….

Agree, just like to pick on SA for some reason. Would be cool to see a brett'd IPA from them.

Way to rip off Ballast Point completely.

Whenever I'm forced to buy from Wal Mart, my only choices are SA and SN. If I see this one I'll definitely grab it.

Yes but wasn't this well after they were already brewing IPAs such as the Latitudes? Saying the style tends to not be to his taste and swearing off making it are two different things. Plus for what it's worth, Rebel is on the lower end of the IBU spectrum for the style, so maybe it's not overhopped to Koch's taste.

Great beer is where you find it. I personally like all the citrus notes in beer; lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit. If you make the best beer I will find you. Micro, macro.....no matter, just make it baby!

I'm a fan of this beer. And yes I know it's not released yet. The rebel IPA is pretty damn grapefruity in its own right. Bring on this beer!

Ah nice, we've got a cool troll. Everyone else posted their opinions on if they'd buy it or not. Was simply doing the same.

I don't get slamming them for copying or lack of innovation. Heady Topper is just a DIPA and there's no tricks here it's just seriously a nearly flawless beer. There's a ton of Dipas on the market right now, Nailing it makes up for whatever.

You sure drink a whole lot of SA beers. You hate for sport?
