There is a city park/campground that is cheaper and has been pretty low key. There is also a tank, which is a pretty cool spot to shotgun beers........

I called both, city park doesn't take reservations but said it rarely sells out even on busy weekends. Yet to hear back from RV park, but I almost think I'd rather stay at city

I'm so excited for this event! This will be my first time ever having Cantillon, I'll be the tall guy with who seems way to excited every time he gets his pour

Dang, Toppling Goliath won't be open until 12pm, so much for a quick beer on the way down.

Hopefully they learn from the many mistakes this year. Being able to buy a bottle of cantillon for $26 is definitely worth some of the headache we endured but I don't think anyone was happy with how things ran this year.

What went wrong? I haven't heard much about how it went

Long waits in the bottle line (90+ minutes) and long waits for short pours at the bar had folks getting right back in line after getting their pours. Still a great day, but these things weren't problematic last year. That said, still a great time and with the exceptional list of bottles available I can understand why people crowded in early to purchase. I am sure they will find a way to make this flow more smoothly next year.

I seemed to get lucky with the beer line. Never too long when I walked up to get a pour. The bottle line was bad though. Was told they were hand writing credit card info. I did like that they had a draw for what bottle of Cantillon you could purchase. And plenty of other great bottles to purchase.

I dig the complaints about the bottle line...when the day wasn't about buying bottles but DRINKING BEER. I also, honestly, did not have too many issues with the draught line. 7-8 minute wait tops each time. But yea, the bottle line looked like it sucked. Though I wouldn't know, I waited until the end and endured a 5-10 minute wait, and didn't kill an hour of my time through the event. Bummer I didn't get a fucking Framboos. Oh well. Zwanze Day is a day for drinking Cantillon beer and celebrating the "finally ready" beer of the year.

You had a different experience than myself then. I waited 40 minutes to get in, then another 30 to get my first pour and a minimum 10 minute wait per after that. That's over two hours of a 5 hour event in lines if I didn't bother with the bottle line.

Many people waited 2 hours in the bottle line as well, could have easily been fixed had that portion been ran any number of different ways. I'm happy with the things I got to try and buy yesterday, but I wouldn't say it was an entirely enjoyable event.

This is not to mention that framboos was first come first serve and that wasn't information anyone was aware of.

I agree the bottle line took too long. I was also bummed to miss out on Framboos too, but at the same time they had Framboos for sale in Elkader Iowa! How awesome is that? Not to mention all the other fantastic bottles that were also for sale. Congrats to all the people who came away with boos, but I'm still excited that they had so many good bottles for everyone else too. My biggest regret is not buying more bottles that were available.

I had a great time getting to try Cantillon for the first time, getting to take home some lambic for later, and meeting fellow BA members. Big thanks to everyone who helped put this together! I'm looking forward to next year

This. I was the one of the last people to go through the bottle line because I wasn't going to waste such an awesome event waiting in a line to buy bottles. I scored a St. Lamvinus and the guy in front of me scored a Fou Foune. Never felt I had to wait too terribly long for a pour either. :sunglasses:

Also, not sure how broadcasting they had a few (what 12 max?) framboos is going to help anything. Sure they could have done it lottery style but whatever it was a Cantillon event ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In important matters, I need an IV of Train to Mars. Must have had 5 or 6 of those suckers.

I too got lucky and never had much of a wait for any line. Maybe 20 minutes in the Bottle line, I did jump in right off the bat and was about 10th in line and scored a Framboos. Each time for a pour was max 10 minutes. They could have run the bottle line a bit better but you didn't have to buy bottles if you didnt want to.

I'm trying to find the best way to comment on this event. I've got a lot of thoughts in my head, both positive and negative, and want to make sure they're conveyed in a way in which both are stated without being disrespectful to Schera's, Abu Nawas, or any of the attendees.

    Loved the event!

I think the biggest things they could have done to help themselves:

    1. Get a square or something to allow the wonderful young lady doing all the dang bookwork to work autonomously. I think her having to ask for a card to be swiped every time really slowed things down for the owner who had to dig through all the boxes.

    2. Just open all the boxes so none of that digging has to occur in the first place. I was the first lucky duck to get a Fou and he had to look for like 3-5 minutes just to find the box among all the others. If the bottles were out and lined up I'm sure he would have saved precious time digging around looking for the harder to get ones.

I really enjoyed the what Schera's put on for us. Getting a little looney out on that patio was just the best thing to do on a beautiful day like Saturday. I wish I could have brought down some bottles to share, but it was my turn to drive the car so I had to stick to draft only, less I be tempted to join in with the fun too much.
