Saw Westy 12 for sale at my local Deli...although they have it OUTRAGEOUSLY priced. Weird too 'cause they have the newer bottles at $75 and older ones at $35. Either way, it's both interesting and absurd.
Perhaps they feel they need that price to justify the expense of getting it here and the risk of getting caught selling bootlegged beer? (It's not registered with the PLCB and so has been brought into the state outside the normal distribution channels.)
Took the Deli's name/locations out of my post as I have NO interest in getting anyone in trouble...just musing on an outrageous price. eBay might even be less...
I'd pay $35 for one. I would not pay $75 for any beer EDIT: Not looking for some or looking for the name of the deli, I've already tried W12. Just mean that I paid $20 for one and didn't think it was an awful price, for the experience. In the grand scheme of things, $35 isn't much worse.
I think it was actually $32. Bucket list beer. I would normally never pay that much, but I did today. I will probably drink it to celebrate the birth of my first born this spring.
Early and mid-nineties you could find it at a number of places in the Philly area. Wasn't cheap, but it wasn't outrageous either. Maybe a little more than Rochefort 10.
I think $30-40 in America is fair. Cheapest I saw it in Belgium was 10euros a bottle which is still expensive relative to other beers (Rochefort 10, 2.50 Euro).
I paid $16 at a bar in PA for it that wasn't trying to price gouge. It's currently at another bar near me for $40.
