I voted hell no. There are individual breweries that have gone a bit overboard, but as a whole the modern new beer movement is alive and well. I see it daily, and that old market share for the big boys will never come back.

Indeed, it has been a long day and I don't even know where I pulled that from. I think I've been out of school for too long...or it's GABF week.

until craft breweries start brewing piss flavored beer to pay the bills then no. there is a difference between getting big and "selling out".

in the words of my favorite rapper (rearranged for craft beer): craft beer didn't go mainstream, mainstream went craft.

The article is pretty shallow, mostly just a collection of bullet points. But, it ends with this one:
    • Passion for making beer keeps craft brewers toiling away longer than most entrepreneurs. Often they aren’t succeeding so much as refusing to fail.

Not what I think of when I hear 'Jumping the Shark', but maybe the old school definition has gone out of use. I think of 'getting desperate for attention' a la fonzie jumping over a shark on his motorcycle when ratings were terrible and the show was cancelled.

Craft beer? No. Some breweries? Definitely.

i know i'm pretty young but i do understand the reference to how Happy Days "jumped the shark" and it was the beginning of the end of their organic fan interest. i don't think craft has gone that far!! i equate it to selling out, instead of continuing on as they please they do something "crazy" to keep up popular interest.

I was just thinking that I haven't read a good "craft beer bubble" thread for---oh---at least a couple of weeks. Can't hardly wait for the next one.

wut. $10 is on the low end of bomber pricing, and their beers are absolutely top tier and worth it.

In the article you posted the author, Corie Brown, wrote "Failure rates for new craft breweries are near zero." Contrarily the BA reports 23 brewpub closings and 23 microbrewery closings in 2014. I would be interested in knowing what Corie Brown quantifies as "near zero."

I say yes due to pricing, store owners, and snobs. I say no cause even sense there is inconsistency this just means they are trying new ways and new things on stale beers.

I think it's time BA appropriate a new phrase, say, rammed the dolphin (just an example). Let's be creative.
