I hope something changed in the recipe of Pumpkin Pie Lust from last year.

One of my least favorite New Glarus beers.

I didn't love last year's, but I bought some of this year's on a whim, given that people were indicating a recipe change.

Definitely tastes different to me - more like a normal spiced fall / pumpkin ale, and less like a dunkleweizen with some spices added. Not better, just different, and more akin to other, similar offerings out there.

I'll be curious to see how it sells this year. Will probably resonate well with the masses, but I wouldn't buy it next year if they made it again.

A milk stout in itself stirs little emotion in me, much less desire to part with my money. I hope there is something interesting about this milk stout.

The milk will come from a spotted cow?

What will likely be a well crafted milk stout at an affordable price and that it is from New Glarus is what makes me have interest. Yeah NG has had some misses but they've earned from me a try for each release. I can count on my hand the number of area breweries I would say the same.

    It'll be $11 for a 4-pack of a Milk Stout, though.

If it's on the same level as FFF Moloko I'm okay with that.

Sweet. Also a question: is PPL out? I might be headed to Hudson on Saturday, would love to add a 6 pack of it to my collection.

I would think that depends on what the distributors and retailers already have on hand. I would assume first-in, first-out, for both distributors and retailers.

Not sure where in WI you are, but here in MKE, I'd guess that Beechwood has a mountain of Scream in their warehouse. Best of luck with your plan, though.

He's in Madison. Every time I've checked dates on Scream in Madison, they are at least a batch fresher than what I see on MKE shelves, so it seems their distributor (or stores?) does a better job than the dreadful Beechwood.

Yeah- your best bet is probably grocery stores/smaller bottle shops that don't over-order Thumbprints. Discount seems to be one of the biggest offenders when it comes to stocking "old" hoppy beers. Their prices and selection are great but they order tons of New Glarus which means they have to move through tons of New Glarus before the fresh stuff hits the shelf.

Good news is that it almost means fresh kegs of Scream around town.

The impression I get is that basically everyone involved thought that Scream would sell better than it did as a year round beer, so Beechwood probably isn't alone in overbuying. Not sure if they have the state line area but with Woodmans Kenosha being one of, if not the best New Glarus account in the state, plus Milwaukee, thats a lot of pipeline to fill and have something sell slower than expected. But it also sucks that they apparently have a bunch of old stuff since that just makes it move even slower if word is out.
