No idea how much they had left, but as of 5:30 they had removed limits on the maple bourbon black bier. I'm guessing that means they have ample supply. There was also zero line.

Stopped by the store a little while ago. They still had about 17 cases of the Maple Bourbon Bier.

Pretty smooth release overall. Pulled in 10 min before 11am and was about 50-60th in line. Got through in a little over a half hour. Can't wait to try these. Makes some nice new additions to my Fall beer stash.

I tried before I buyd and thought it was decent. But I also tried cocoa bourbon nibbler and really liked that. Unfortunately no way to take it home. Wish the bottled that.

Amen. That's the best beer I've ever had poured at Dark Horse.

Visited the general store this evening and they still had about 10 cases of this on the floor @ $17/four pack and no limit.

So, just thinking out loud here, anyone thinking that maybe Dark Horse is getting ahead of themselves with some of these special releases?

BBA Tres and 3/6 Legs had huge lines, and sold out, and the new MBA black sat for a bit (they might even have some still)...

Few things I was thinking about

    - Cost - their cost for a 4 pack of these releases is climbing 13 (tres) 15 (3 legs) 19 (6 legs) and 17 (mba black)
    - relatively low ABV for being barrel aged and demanding that kind of cost. I am still confused how there barrel aged beers come out so low in abv (i am not a brewer...) but when they BA tres. no increase in ABV. I know it is not the end all, but I know if the price goes up for me, I am usually looking for somerthing higher ABV.
    - they have started to put such low limits that it makes people not want to go to a release. 1 4 pack or something... people aren't driving distances for that unless it is mind blowing.
    - are people loving them? i probably wouldn't buy BA tres again, unless to trade it. I need to open another 3 or 6 legs and have it again.

again. just rambling for the hell of it. I didn't try MBA black ale as I didn't have a chance to stop, but I couldn't see myself paying $17 for it either.

its a good beer, nothing ground breaking, but i think this one comes down to 'relatively short notice/not much advertising' and pretty high yield(enough for over 660 people). They had enough cases of ba plead for over 900 people @ 4 elf and it lasted 3-4 days at the GS after 4elf.

They do it because they're in the business to make money and people will buy it all up, even if it takes a month. I like what they're doing with it and I am even ok with the price, but they'll need to step up their game quality-wise in order for me to justify driving there from GR for a release. They bottle Cocoa Nibbler and I'm in.

I think this beer would have been a lot better if it was barrel aged for more time. Sometimes I wonder if the barrel aging process is just putting a few cases of already bottle beer on top of the barrel itself.

That being said, I've got a few spares if anyone is interested.

i dont think costs are climbing, different beers just cost a different amount in time and ingredients therefor a different sticker price. 3 Legs was the same price it was 2 years ago and 6 Legs was actually cheaper this year.
