People posting that they got beer at their "local brooklyn store" are equally annoying, I agree

I just think it's short-sighted to think that:

    a) the beer community in NYC begins and ends with BA
    b) that there aren't a small number of highly motivated individuals who use threads like these to go from place to place to place picking up. Yes this thread may help a couple of good dudes get a can or two who missed out elsewhere, but I believe the net effect is negative

this still reeks of "this is my secret, mine, MINE," you realize that right?

Lol. I'm not shopping at any secret locations, but the opportunistic type is less likely to go out there way on the possibility that a place might have some, vs knowing that a place definitely has some thanks to this thread

My goal is that as many people as possible in the area get their hands on a great beer - I just disagree with this being the way to go about it

I'd guess just to trade, but to be fair, that's a complete assumption

You mean beer geeks aren't regularly hitting Harlem for their beers?

    That hurts to think about.

If these individuals are highly motivated, do you really think their sole source of info is from this thread? Many of the places people posted in this thread posted on beermenus/instagram/twitter/facebook that they had received shipments, so that information was public already. I'm sure a highly motivated person would scan those sources too. Plus, these people probably have other sources. In this very thread, it was reported that multiple WF locations had the beer but that it was already gone - so clearly there was a run on the beer before it was reported here on BA.

    No.

    Useful information ≠ "hype".

    Yes, I agree.

Fair enough - just sharing my opinion on a message board. I'm sure they do have their sources. Why provide them with anything extra. As we just saw some guy from CT is trading 2 x 4-packs, but plenty of "regulars" in this thread are striking out.

You haven't struck out yet. You could always try trading with this guy. Haha.

Why not? Isn't the idea here to help people find it? This just sounds incredibly rude and selfish.

That's the retail market. Anyone from anywhere can buy whatever they like if they have the money to do so. They can then do whatever they please with whatever it is that they buy. I know it sounds crazy, but that's literally how it works.

I asked the guy with the trade post what the deal was. He said his local store got a case--apparently they didn't have limits.

Safe to assume he bought the case then. Haha.

I wonder if he's interested in some La Cumbre.

In an ideal world would you like as many Grimm fans as possible to get hold of a can or two each? Or a few people to get hold of several 4-packs?

I'd like to see the former happen - if we disagree on how that's best achieved, fine, but just want to be clear that that's where I'm coming from. I can absolutely promise that if I was in a position to buy 8 cans I would only buy 2.

I see your point (and I agree tenure doesn't matter). I just feel like anyone who cares enough to follow this thread deserves a nudge in the right direction. If we're not all here to share knowledge about beer, what's the point?

I would like anyone to get whatever it is that they like using whatever information is available to them. This isn't a contest for Grimm's biggest fans. It's a retail item sitting at a store for purchase by anyone who is conscious enough to take it off the shelf, walk to the register and pay for it.

But wouldn't it be nice to know where to go to buy those two cans? And where someone could potentially go to purchase the other 6 that you graciously left behind?

Exactly my point for why I think the way I do

But fair enough - I get where you're coming from. Agree to disagree

This is a tough one for me. On the one hand, yes, as Beer Advocates, we're here to look out for each other, share information, etc. But on the other hand, having a place that I go that is still under the radar, not overrun by "out-of-towners," is still something I want. I can't be the only one to have that sentiment.

Not sure what the answer is and some may feel that I'm wrong or that @rollom is wrong, but if so, I guess I'll have to own that because if the flipside is you can't ever get a hold of something, even at a place that was once old faithful, than I'm all for keeping secrets.
