I had it on draft at Houghs before I even knew about the infection. There was definitely an off-flavor to it that I couldn't put my finger on. Then I read about it here...

    My first diacetyl experience.

Which location? Meadville or Homestead? Facebook is usually kept up to date.

I would do this for Publican. Not Girl and Goat.

Yeah, last time I was on here asking after their tap list, they replied (on here) with a pic of their FB page. Nice gents, those guys.

Can only speak for myself but my bottle tasted super weird. I've got a second, haven't opened it yet.

    That is a great article.

I do like the part about Side Project where it only takes on person to claim infection and then everyone else suddenly tastes it. That's pretty true. Group mentality.

I don't know about everyone else but I use the uncorked ratings app to keep track of and then also give ratings based on if I like it or not, not particularly of how well made the beer is or how to style it is. Maybe that is wrong but I see it more as a personal tracking device.

Meadville or Homestead? Both have their tap lists on their Facebook pages, if you don't have Facebook I can post it here for you.

I've been to both as well and agree. Unfortunately, after making reservations like 3 months in advance, my favorite plate at Girl and the Goat was a beet salad.

I've had pours from 4 separate bottles and have only tasted delicious BA stout.

Yeah. We thought it smelled really buttery, had some butteriness on the taste but it wasn't undrinkable, it really didn't wow us in flavor but wasn't something I would describe as gross and needed to pour out, but I don't know, it smelled worse than it tasted, that's for sure. None of us even know their were any concerns with this beer before it was bought/drank @psbhockey12 @STG228 any thoughts to add?

The BA rumor was that different regions of the country got different blends yada yada so depending on where it was purchased could have had something to do with it. Not to mention temperature at which it was held for bacteria to reproduce

Thankfully, I've never tasted any hints of butter or green pepper with beer as of yet. I would probably ralph if I ever detected buttery popcorn.

The bottle of Abyss I purchased from Giant Eagle not too long ago was hands down the worst beer I've ever tasted. Not sure what was up with it, but it tasted like absolute shit.

MD Shadyside had a GF rep about 2 months ago. He told me rather than blending certain barrels together in small batches, they blended everything together in one large batch for consistency reasons. He claimed it was quite embarrassing. The owner even recognized there was an infection. So this was not some isolated instance where someone claimed infection when there really wasn't one. The damn owner of the brewery recognized there was one.

I agree with others here that Scott isn't necessarily wrong.

But I feel like it's a very basic principle that when you're in a customer-facing business role that you probably shouldn't insult any facet of your customer base...regardless of the size or lack of potential impact of the demographic.

No you hit that right on the head. Lots of butter in the smell but didn't taste it as much, just a slight buttery mouthfeel and not much barrel character. I think I drank half of my pour.

I was surprised to see people say that they got their money back for the bottles they bought. Don't know if that was through Green Flash or the bottle shop but quite a few mentioned that...??

GF rep @ MD Shadyside also said the owner was refunding people who got a bad bottle.

@STG228 is this where you got yours? or any chance you'd still have a receipt? haha

Owner of Green Flash for clarification purposes, not Giant Eagle.
