The situation is similar here in Wyoming.

    The Good:
-- Stores are open 7 days a week
    -- Happy hours are allowed
-- "Drive through" liquor stores are common (I never use the drive up window, but they seem to be popular)
-- For liquor drinkers (not me, I only drink beer) you can get take out pre-made frozen cocktails (anywhere from a pint to growler size) at many stores

    The Bad:
-- There is a limit to the number of licenses based on population per country (x number of licenses per x thousands of residents)
-- The above include 2 separate categories: "full" license (beer/wine/liquor) + operate a bar/nightclub with a store adjoining and "restaurant" license (sell to dining customers only)
-- I believe that every decent sized city in this sparsely populated state has maxed out on both types of licenses (i.e. very difficult for any national stores to get a license -- so no sales at Sam's, most WalMarts and many Grocery Stores).

    The Ugly/Insane:
-- The very small number of licenses here become "perpetual property" of the owners. This results in: less competition, which means generally higher prices and crappy service/selection.
-- Here in Cheyenne we have 3-4 decent stores and a slew of crappy, run-down places that charge high prices for a very limited selection of beers.
-- The licensee can sell their license to the highest bidder. I have seen them advertised for $250K and up.

I am dumbfounded that this law survives, but I am guessing that it makes a small number of license owners quite wealthy.

Have heard something: Is there some problem with having growlers to go, with the beer being over a certain percentage, in GJ or CO in general?

    Cheers!

I think Ohio's are hypocritical. We won't ship in 120 Min, but we still sell Four Loko, St. Ides, &other assorted "death in a can" malt beverages. So its ok to get two units of something that could cause serious problems in more than one way, but refuse to allow something made with integrity& quality that is revered by the craft community? Now, I know that this problem certainly doesn't apply to just 120 Min, but I figured it well be the most well-known choice for an example. Anyone else think this is just plain wrong?

Yeah, can't think of too many negative aspects to purchasing beer/alcohol in WI. Liquor stores close at 9pm but you can still buy beer/wine pretty much anywhere else (grocery store, gas station, bait shop etc.) until midnight. Although that may vary by municipality?

Very well could be a county by county thing. Hamilton County here. Hyde Park Kroger's liquor store is always open on sundays

Until a couple of months ago it was illegal to sell beer in 64-oz containers in Florida. 32 was okay. 128 was okay. 64 was not okay.....

But recent legislation fixed that so now I'm gonna go get a big growler.

Not to mention in Arkansas, bottles under 16.9oz (500ml) must be sold in quantities of three or more. No 12oz singles. A little hard to spring for some of those $40 four packs from Prairie and others.

You went to UCA or Harding?

I am not sure where it was stated that MI has an ABV cap, but I have bought DFH 120 and WWS in state.

Utopias is also sold in MI.

Reform of alcohol legislation in PA is challenging since there are strong special interest groups who prefer that the system pretty much stay the way it is (principally the state stores). These special interest groups are effective no matter which party is in power but more powerful with Democrats.

Hopefully privatization will occur sometime soon but I am personally not holding my breath. It is a classic circumstance where the special interest groups are served by the politicians while the constituents are of lower priority.

THIS times infinity...hell, the drive-thru beverage stores alone make the ABV cap even more pointless. I have to laugh at friends from outta state that marvel at the drive-thru beverage stores every time they visit.

Gotcha one better. In South Carolina, stores can give out samples of beer and wine, but not at the same time.

These days CA liquor laws don't bother me much. When I worked graveyard though, the whole no sales from 2am-7am thing was super annoying since those were a good portion of my waking hours.

Now combine the existence of special interest groups with a predominantly rural population and their legislative representatives... PA is not the only state where I've lived that many policies related to alcohol and other "sinful" activities were formulated and dominated by a mostly rural legislature (and in PA, ours is probably the most cumbersome in the nation, it certainly is one of the largest).

In Georgia breweries can't even sell beers. We have to sell "tour packages"

No you can purchase until 11:30 even on Sundays. Many stores just aren't open that late.

I was looking at some other stuff and the ohio liquor permit classes are kind of amusing. It seems like they could save time by making laws "if you're AB or Miller, these laws apply to you only". For example, there's a special permit for manufacturing over 1 million barrels

    It's an amusing read: http://com.ohio.gov/liqr/permitClasses.aspx

Just to get the permit to hang on my wall, I might become a licensed distributor of sacramental wine...

Nc owns the liquor stores , obviously closed on Sunday's. It's a monolopy, should be illegal for the state to be in the alcohol business. Can't buy beer before noon is also ridiculous.
