    Bring on the brett.

I like what New Glarus is doing with the R&D series. I'd much rather have 1 or 2 affordable excellent sours a year than something like Upland's constant barrage of $30 "lottery" sours. Until we have a Rare Barrel or Side Project style sour specialist in Wisconsin (maybe Funk Factory will fill this need) New Glarus is enough for me.

Implying FFG doesn't already? They're without a doubt top tier in the country, let alone WI. Along with Allagash they're putting out some of the most Belgian sours around.

I have heard very, very good things, but I have to withhold my judgement on FFG until I can at least get some into my mouth! Is he selling out of his shop yet? I'll be around Madison over the next few weeks- if you know of any establishments selling bottles, let me know!

Unfortunately no, all releases look to be at O'so for the foreseeable future. Believe the hype plus more, though. They/he don't/doesn't get enough praise.

Good to see Wisconsin breweries helping one another out. I'll make the journey up there for the next release.

All signs point to Levi Funk doing it the right way. Taking his time. Souring small batches. Releasing when ready.

O'so Gold was good to see, especially after the rough year w/ some off bottles!

Do it. If rumors are true, it's gonna be a gueuze and a black raspberry lambic.

I'm a sucker for gueuze. Lambics are nice, too. Would like to compare it to the Upland Blackberry.

If it's anything like how Upland Raspberry compares to Framrood, it'll be a joke of a contest, like comparing Altech Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout to BCBS.

To keep this on track, I'm actually excited for Golden Ale. It was the first R&D I ever had when I turned 21.

It was my first R&D, as well. Was living in SD at the time and took a bottle back. It was very well received by some great beer minds out there. It's a damn good beer. No reason anyone should feel like this isn't worthy of R&D!

That "Golden Ale" poured at GABF was actually Wild Bitter, unless a few rogue bottles snuck in. As someone whose had the Bitter multiple times now, one wiff of what I got poured at the fest was a dead giveaway. Anyone else experience this?

I would go-ahead and say you completely wrong. Unless they submitted into the wrong category or brought the wrong bottles...

Only 38 bbl. Was really hoping for the 160 bbl batch they brewed last time.

Still as large as BBBB, and a bigger batch than Wild Bitter.

Anyone who is worried about what it trades for needs to get a life. You're part of the problem. You probably don't want to admit it because nobody likes to admit their faults, but yeah, you are.

Spittin hot fire. My thoughts exactly. Though if it keeps the FIBs out...

I don't think it will be unless they get a new system for limiting people from looping back through the line

I was told by some NG employees that they are going to start scanning IDs at the October release.

That beer developed very nicely for a few years but (IMO) started going downhill sometime around the 3-year point. It's probably not great at this point, but worth the exercise of contrasting with the fresh 2015 beer. I have no idea if they are even the same recipe, though. Two Women was referenced earlier, but the v1 of that beer was much different than v2 and beyond.

Brett Golden Ale confirmed as R&D on Facebook. Although they call it Vintage 2015 at one point...

[Edit] Looks like they updated the post and replaced 'Vintage 2015'.

"GABF Brett Bronze Medal was brought home this past weekend by the 2015 Golden Ale. This same award winning 2015 Golden Ale will be released to the public October 8, 9, and 10. As always there will be a two bottle per person day limit. A limited number of bottles will be available each day and sales will begin at the New Glarus Brewing Co. Hilltop Brewery no later than 9:00 a.m. and ending when the beer is gone.
The first R&D Golden Ale was released in 2009. This year’s 2015 Golden Ale was again brewed by Diploma Master Brewer Daniel Carey. Golden Ale is a Belgian Trappist Style Ale brewed with Czech & Munich malts. German Saphir and French Strisselspalt hops were used for the kettle boil. The 2015 Golden Ale was than dry hopped and is naturally bottle conditioned with Ale and Brett yeast."

That's from the FB page... Unless I am missing something i don't see a reference to Vintage 2015
