This is making us think we should do a cask version as well...

absolute stunner of a deal.... how did you like it?

    Designed to IMBIBE

did you manage to find some?

We have done a barrel aged version of the 3Beans, fwiw.....

awesome man, and hopefully a 6pack in the future!

no plans for that on this round....

great...we'll look to send some more to Iowa soon....

Drinking my first as I write this. I am big Sixpoint fan. Sadly I have made the mistake of drinking this right after a FBS, my personal "reference point" when it comes to porters and stouts. At the moment I am longing for my FBS back in the glass.
Don't get me wrong, this seems like a very good beer. I will try it again later, solo.

Reading the can.... since when is barley considered a bean? Cool name, even so.

4 Beans is quite good but I agree that it pales by comparison to FBS.

OK. I have 5 cans. Just need to wait for a daylight hours drinking occasion due to the caffeine. Definitely going to be an excellent festival beer.

According to the Sixpoint beer finder it is here in Dallas but places do not seem to have it. Gonna keep hunting and hope I don't miss out.

So reading Sixpoint's overview of the beer and their comment about how past brewers added beans to give the beer extra body from excess protein got me wondering: how much protein do you really think is in a can of 4Beans? I'm not looking to make this (or any other beer) a regular staple of my protein intake, and at any rate I know barley protein is not a complete protein anyway...but Romano beans by themselves are packed with protein. I know it's only one of four beans added and all, but still. I'm curious.

@Sixpoint , have you guys ever measured this? Or thought to measure it?

Oh, and also: good beer, I like it. I don't like it quite as much as I did 3Beans but it's a tasty and worthy sequel nonetheless.

That's an interesting thought. Perhaps back in the day romano beans were not only added to boost the fermentables in the mash, but also was a source of protein as well. Kind of like a thick barley stew - but with alcohol :-)

Given the relative low percentage of romano beans in the mash, I'd imagine the beer could not have more than a couple of grams of protein AT MOST...but at least that would be more than a conventional beer.

Had one last night, it was good but not great. I actually preferred 3 Beans over this one.

Had 3 Beans a while back and was excited to see 4 Beans. I really like it! One of the few canned beers in my cellar.

Finally found a 4-pack tonight. Wow. Took forever. Distribution was really poor on this launch.

This porter definitely needs to be served closer to room temp. Tastes not so good below 40F.

Lots of tasting notes and subtle nuances when it warms up. Fairly sweet, kind of cool for Sixpoint I guess, but nothing special.

A lot of hype but not too much substance.

And no, I won't be buying 6 beans next summer.

    Meh overall

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.... including this man:

Don't punish the Mad Scientists if a retailer stored this beauty at the wrong temperature and in the wrong environment.

Perhaps ya'll need to come down to the Sixpoint Brewery in NYC and try this sucker phresh? Methinks so.

Let's make it happen. Can we all agree that fresh draft would be the best source for sampling? :-) through clean draft lines of course...

I have had VAS, FBS, and 4Beans. I can not say anything bad about FBS as I drink it yearly but FWIW I grabbed another 4pack of 4Beans today instead of the FBS. I know stout and porters are really similar but in my experience they can be complete opposites in feel. I did not like VAS all the much.

Love this one! I also tried mixing a bit of it with a pumpkin beer and it was the perfect desert beer.

Interesting, what pumpkin beer did you use and what was your ratio?
