Grimm Artisian asked if they could use it. The brewery is based off of their last name. Grimm Brothers said sure.

I am drinking one now. I think it has a nice degree of dankness to it. Certainly more authentic to the style than say, Alaskan Amber.

There's an odd flavor about it that I just don't like. I won't write it here as once a friend described it to me, I can't taste/smell anything else. Obviously it's an award-winning beer, so there's nothing actually wrong with it. It's just me being a weirdo and I don't want to ruin it for anyone else :stuck_out_tongue:.

I honestly like Alaskan Amber a lot, but it definitely feels more like a standard American amber than an Alt. I guess it's a little like Deibels, though. With the exceptions of the larger brands like Schlosser and Diebels, altbier tends to be bone dry, mild, and with almost no esters at all. I haven't run into too many US versions that emulate that fully. Not my favorite style to begin with, but I've grown to appreciate it.

Liquid Mechanics Altbier is the total shit. Their Kolsch is damn good, too.

Never made it up to LM, but I might have to next time I'm up that way. Like alt, Koelsch was never really my favorite. It has grown on me, too. For as much grief as I give "fake Koelsch" (aka. American Blonde), I actually prefer it to the real thing in most instances.

Speaking of Altbier's, two of the best I've had to date:

Uerige Doppelsticke - Uerige Obergärige Hausbrauerei

Alt - New Glarus Brewing Company

    Cheers!

Uerige Doppelsticke is such an amazing beer. Although at 8.5% ABV, it's literally almost twice as strong as a normal alt and is borderline one of a kind. I guess some American brewers and taking cracks at that concept. Lagunitas has one on the way.
Grimm's Big Bad Wolf is headed down a similar road. Haven't had it in a while, but I remember liking it.

That's what I figured on the Uerige, but for what it is, it's pretty freakn' good.

    Cheers!

It's absolutely world class, and you can't even (normally) buy it in Dusseldorf. I was brewed for the American market. If the locals want it, they have to go to the back production area and have them grab bottles before they pack 'em up.
Even their normal Sticke is a seasonal they only pour for a very limited time. Luckily the extra potency and hops make both hold up really well to the trip. If you like Uerige, the Bull & Bush carry both Sticke alts on tap regularly.

It's technically in Glendale, but it's really close to Cherry Creek Dr. and Colorado Blvd.
There's a little known place called Shotgun Willie's located very close by...

Thanks. Still a bit of a drive from GJ, but I'm sure one of these days I will make the trip.

    Cheers!

I've only had a few Alts. Most brewed in the US. None can touch Uerige...

Can't say I've had (m)any US versions that can hold up to Uerige either. The only ones I have were located just up the street from them in the Duesseldorf Altstadt.
I've been told that the one from Olde Mecklenburg is the gold standard, but I haven't had it. Widmer's original recipe alt is/was apparently great, too.
Bill Eye's versions have been solid over the years, but I was somewhat anti-alt in those days. Even when they were probably at their best I likely didn't give them a fair shake. Depending on his interpretation of the word "lager" I guess we might see one at Bierstadt.

I've been to Düsseldorf multiple times and like you said below, you can't get this. Any place locally sell it?

I've only made it Düsseldorf once, but I had a fun time. While the town is very European (moreso than "German"), the alt pubs feel like they were transplanted from Bavaria. It's a fun contrast in culture.

I think it's technically a seasonal. Lucas should have 'em in the cooler when they're fresh. That's where I've bought it before. Even though they used to only put shelf turds on the warm shelves, they now have a lot of good beers on those ones to the left of the cooler door. There could be some hiding over there.

Not sure what your asking. I have no idea when/if I will head over to Denver anytime soon.

    Cheers!
