What a funny, interesting thread! People love to trash great tasting beers, hoping to appear to go against the grain, and try to come off as hip and edgy. Others build up their expectations of beers to such unrealistic levels, that they're disappointed when a beer is only good instead of great. What pretentious, hipster BS.

Sorry guys, I'm done with my rant and got that out of my system.

I'm headed to the fridge to grab another Two Heart.

So if everyone told you Founder's KBS and Breakfast Stout were garbage, you'd drink it and be what?

bcbcs isn't disappointing but I agree with the sentiment that it's not way better than bcbs. There's a window 4--8 months after bottling that it's got a ton of carmel and it's pretty sublime, but it's not

Personally if I saw it I'd leave it for others who'd be siked and stock up on the "regular." That beer ~always~ tastes awesome. I've actually tried putting "a finger" of my own cold brew, and pouring bcbs in ontop vs bcbcs and it was all but indistinguishable.

Every New England area hoppy beer I've had has been no better than a fresh hoppy beer I can buy locally.

That basically goes for any hoppy beer though.

The hype is self sustaining, which is too bad for smaller breweries putting out fantastic stuff and don't get noticed because people's dicks are too erect for northeast stuff.

Sculpin, just don't get it. Not bad obviously, but it's not all that either.

Other Half Amarillo IPA. The beer base is all I taste, which is the exact same for all their SIPAs. That being said Other Half kills it on most everything they make.

Beers that have also disappointed recently.
1.Firestone Walker Parabola 2015 (hoping it was a bad bottle, had a salinity that was just awful)
2.New England Brewing Co. Ghandi Bot
3.Hill Farmstead Everett (dirty draft lines or just plain disgusting, not sure)
4.Grimm sours besides psychokinesis (must be the house yeast. All have an intense apricot flavor with a miserable aftertaste)

A beer that doesn't suck and I would kill for again is Voodoo #quadfather.

I'm with you there. I did have it on tap and I enjoyed it a bit more, but out of a can or bottle, and just a few weeks out, it didn't do much for me.

I really didn't like Other Half Hop Showers - almost no malt base and very astringent hop bitterness.

I felt that way about one of the hop shower batches but these past two I have found them to be much more balanced.

Like many on this thread I thought sculpin was an average IPA and didn't understand the hype. Then while in California I had it fresh on tap and it was one of the best IPAs I've ever had. It's a must that this beer is served fresh or you will be sadly disappointed.

I remember walking into a new bottle shop and I was picking up Backwoods Bastard, and the guy behind the counter recommended Big Bad Baptist, telling me that its way better with 1/4 the hype. I totally agree with him. Its way better than KBS. The Fact that it can be so hard to get kills some of the allure for me.

I don't want to call it a disappointment because I really enjoyed it but I just had Pliny for the first time and I really don't know how it's rated so highly while others are so much lower

Dark Lord all fucking day. That beer was gross! Soy sauce and molasses with a hefty dollop of brown sugar. Damn!
It was the red waxed vintage...2012 I think. I hope there are better versions, especially the 2014 that I still have yet to open.

2015 was the best version I've had going back every year to 2010. However with DL the barrel aged versions are where it's at.
