Thinking of cold crashing a batch in a few days. My concern is the airlock being sucked in from the temp change. Could I just put a tube in my bung and put a cotton ball in the end of it instead of having a airlock? Also, I would assume the cotton itself would be enough, but should I soak it in alcohol before?

Use a S-type airlock and no sanitizer will end up in the beer.

I've heard this before. I guess I just don't understand the mechanics behind it. Is it just the way an S airlock is shaped in terms of gravity that won't suck any liquid in?

The idea is that as air comes in, it bubbles up through the liquid rather than pushing the liquid up the tube and into your beer. Have you ever seen someone use a bong?

Yes I've "seen" this sort of activity before. That makes sense. Thanks
