Odd Side: The Nihilist

Just now drinking my first, and holy mackerel! What a great beer. Might have to go look for more tomorrow.

 

I'm a mug club member at Oddside and had a pint at the brewery last night. Do not insult Doom by comparing it to this beer. Doom is a classic, top 10 beer. This is just another Oddside experiment that misses the mark. The barrel aging really kills the essence of this DIPA. I would pass on this.

 

Any info on the types of barrels used? I'm assuming if it was bourbon, it would have been indicated on the label. Otherwise, comparing it to Doom might not be a fair example.

I don't think it's ridiculous to compare this to Doom. It's not as good as Doom, which had better integration of flavors and smoother/more mellow barrel characteristics, but it's still a darn good beer.

 

Any sightings of this in Oakland or Wayne county?

 

Will be at Pineridge Market in Milford tomorrow (2 cases).

 

I know AA had it earlier this week. Still hoping it hits Brighton/South Lyon area, though not holding my breath.

 

@DeviousSpirits The few places I've seen it, it's been limited to one bottle per person, so hopefully that will allow it to stick around for a little longer. Good luck.

 

I'm not sure why they keep wasting good barrels by putting hop-forward beer in them.

 

Was very satisfied with this one. Had it on tap at BFD last night. Just enough bourbon on the nose and mouth to give it the extra kick. Two thumbs up Odd Side.

 

Any sightings of this one in Wayne county or traverse area? Heading up north this weekend

 

Damn, looks like I missed out on this one. Pretty scarce in Genesee County, Oliver T's had a case that didn't last long. Don't know of anyone else who got it.

 

Just made a call to Odd side pub and they have plenty for sale $17.50 per four pack no limit. Now I need
a fellow BA to help me out.

 

Just saw it at Horrock's in Battle Creek.

 

Country Acres in South Lyon/Green Oak has a case of two, as of a half hour ago.

 

Pauly's In Lowell got a case in today... Two bottle limit at 4.99 per.

I've found the key to enjoying this beer to the fullest is letting it warm up to a good 65 degrees or so. Really great around that temp.
