    keep them to a minimum.

one or two behind the bar that are integrated into the decor of the space looks the best in my opinion. Deschutes in Portland is a HUGE place, and they only have 2 TVs. The cool part is that they put nice wood picture frames around them that matches the rest of the restaurant.

Had a pleasant chat with a barmaid about the beers at a taproom. I said I was glad they didn't have TVs. She motioned to the one big screen built into the top of the back bar, smiled, and said "I use the off switch if nothing is on".

I am not a sports fan... So, you can put me down as a 'No'.

The only TV that belongs in a taproom, is to have the DigitalPour menu listed of the beers on tap.

I say no TV's, but I know that I am the exception. I go to have a drink and chat with my mates. If I want to watch a game a have a nice TV and a comfy couch for just that. My suggestion is, make it your own place, like you like it and hopefully you will attract like minded people. If you decide to not have TV's, tell people why, write it up as part of your menu, tell the story, your story and hopefully enough people will buy in to your ideas. Best of luck with the opening. Cheers!

You need a four lane Druke cribbage board. No TVs.

How do they incorporate comic books? They have them sitting on the bar/tables? Posters and wall art?

Personally I watch enough sports at my house so when I go out I don't necessarily need TVs. But from a business standpoint it might be better to have a few so those who want to watch a game don't opt for someplace else.

Why don't you just post it here where everyone can see? This is the opposite of getting your name out there.

My favorite local bar has one that they only put on for big events/sports. IMO it'll draw in more business so I would definitely have one

I don't like TV's in taprooms/breweries at all. I personally wouldn't have any in my taproom/brewery if I had one lol

lol this is true. It's opening in Hazleton. We will be right off of State Route 924 outside of the Humboldt Industrial Park. It will be located next to a 6 and 12 pack store (Humboldt Beer Depot). The taproom will be called Tap at Humboldt Beer Depot. I have a 20 Tap setup, 1 Nitro Faucet, 2 cask engines and a cooler for Belgians and limited bottle releases. We will also be serving wine, sandwhiches and meat a cheese plates.

My thing is, in my area there is a big demand for craft beer. I know tons of people traveling 20-30 miles to neighboring towns to go to taprooms. I really think it's something I can capitalize on. The annoying part is everyone is bitching that I am only going to carry craft beer and no miller, coors, bud stuff.

All depends on the vibe you are trying to project really. I think it makes sense to have TVs for big games, movie nights, and other events. This gives you the option to use it at your discretion.

But as others have pointed out, you can readily turn them off during other hours to encourage interaction, emphasize music and celebrate your beer.

I will say, I use a Roku and don't (and I'm not willing to) pay for cable channels, but this time of year, participating in Fantasy Football, I often want to hit up a bar or brewery on a Sunday to catch just a bit of football. Naturally, I go where there's good beer and a game on (or better yet Red Zone, so I don't see ads or all the nonsense that watching a game entails).

IMO just carry the bottles or cans. You dont have to bring it in by the truck load but sometimes a BMC or PBR or Somehting Similar is nice inbetween tasting a bunch of new stuff. It allows you to take care of eveyone without giving up tap space.

I sure wish Hoof Hearted had some since they keep doing releases during Bengals games. I am fine without sound though, and if there are not any games on, you can just turn them off. I dont need the Weather Channel or CNN.

My general belief is it is always better to have something and not need it, then need it and not have it. People who don't want or need it can just ignore them like I do low calorie stuff

I'm a fan of TVs going as long as they're on mute. Some kind of game is always nice, I've also been places that have movies playing and that works well to IMO. Definitely on mute though.

To me, your local bar/taproom should be that......your local bar or taproom. As such they should participate in the local community's major interests, so if you're in a sports town a bar or taproom should have TVs so that people can come in and watch the local sporting events.

Hmmm...make a social media account for your business, pay the small marketing fee to ensure it shows up on the feeds of your target audience. From there, start a poll on its page asking the question.

Just a thought. I for one don't mind a television either way. But it would likely depend on if I were going to a place alone or with a group, food options, etc,.

i hate TVs. they're incredibly distracting. even when i'm trying to carry on a conversation with people i'm with, i find myself glancing over. it's like, who goes out to watch TV? are you that addicted you can't spend a few hours away from it?

there's a local taproom that has one to play sporting events, which only makes sense, but when there isn't a local / big game playing, it remains off.

it sounds a little counter-intuitive / hypocritical to bring in a TV if you're trying to 'enhance the human experience,' but if you absolutely need one, turn it off when there isn't a game on.

You can also carry the big names and just not advertise them.
