Didn't, for some reason I feel like it was closed. I remember being disappointed I couldn't drop in.

Yah, I'm not really sure of the origin of that limitation or what purpose it serves, but I'm gaining a collection of growlers that really doesn't do much other than collect precious space.

The answer to that, as well as any other questions regarding why the law is quite simple: it was written as it was because it was what could get passed. The alternative was not having growlers at all.

I haven't seen anything this fancy from the likes of Town Hall or Fitger's, but I bet one of them greenish produce bags from Cub Foods would work in a pinch:

They don't call making laws as being similar to making sausage for nothing.

Yep, this is correct. Northgate will be a production brewery with growler sales only on-site.

It is kinda sad that Surly, Flat Earth, Brau Brothers and Lift Bridge are now older MN breweries.

I Agree with you, I have some I just bought in the bottle (SCoV) and its just not that good.. I'd call it 'off' as well.. but also it could have sat on the 'vine' too long down here Rochester (store cooler), Worthy Adversary was quite good at Fulton brew pub last week.

I think I've read on BA before that the difference b/n the bottles and tap/brewpub is the due to the contract brewery. Maybe someone more informed can provide more insight.

That could be, but I thought it tasted the same in bottles as it did on tap. That is to say I thought it tasted off in both packages. Not off as in infected, but off as is stale/old/oxidized with an unpleasant vegetal quality.

The Mayan's didn't account for leap years, were already dead, this is the Matrix. I guess if I am dead, I don't have to work, might as well pour myself a beer.

You know I am not clear on if this is a law of not. I know one Twin Cities brewpub which shall go nameless in case it is a law that DOES fill growlers from other places as long as they are 64 ounces. I think this is a smart move to do this but it is the only place in MN I have seen do it....in Wisconsin you see it almost everywhere (except Tyranena).

I wonder if it is truly law in MN or if places just want the beer in their labeled growlers.

I've yet to visit Fulton's brew pub but I have not been impressed at all with Lonely Blonde or Sweet Child in bottle.

As far as I know it is Mn state law. If it wasn't, I just can't imagine that all of the breweries in Mn have been scamming us all these years.

It is the law, unfortunately...MN Stat 340A.301, where it mentions growlers...

The containers or bottles shall be identified as malt liquor, contain the name of the malt liquor, bear the name and address of the brewer selling the malt liquor, and shall be considered intoxicating liquor unless the alcoholic content is labeled as otherwise in accordance with the provisions of Minnesota Rules, part 7515.1100.

Agree on the bottle versions. The versions from the tap house are much better
