That's what I was thinking as I was enjoying a couple of pints yesterday on a spectabulous Minnesota evening: this has severely missed its mark.

When people are complaining about the lack of aroma, annual variation in flavor, and comparison to lager -- I suspect a lack of awareness. I realize there is a fine line here though and I completely respect your flavor preferences. I happen to find the beer interesting and unique, which makes up for any lack of punch.

Taking the blue pill then, eh? Maybe in a few years you'll move onto cocktails for the flavor consistency.

Yep, I can see where this is headed. I'm gonna bow out and go see if I can find our cat's old litter boxes and see if they still retain their aromas of cat piss.

Sorry, I don't think that says what you think it does.

Edit: Was not trying to be condescending. That link has no mention of 'catpiss' or whatever you are talking about. Most of the Simcoe profile descriptions mention "fruity, piney, or woodsy". So basically it can be anything and probably varies year-to-year.

You left off what I would say are the biggest one's. Pine and Grapefruit. I have never got skunk from a beer except light-struck beers. Simcoe certainly can be catty but I am not getting it here.

I shouldn't put so much emphasis on skunk, i think I mean more... dank. This years wet however seems to have some sort of skunk undertone, which I believe is where people are getting the lager affect... and myself the heineken flavor?

I get cat pee from Citra, not Simcoe.

What's the malt bill in Wet this year? I have not had Wet 2015 yet (working on that. can't stop the fresh hop), but I remember Deschutes' Chasin' Freshies tasting like a sweet pilsner a few years ago.

According to the Surly website, the malt is "2-Row, Acidulated, Carafoam" ... I know little to nothing about malt, but there ya go.

Never said I wasn't condescending to you. Nice try though putting those quotes together.

Second can on the second night is much better... Expectations were set proper before this one. It's the underlying grain bill! Those flavored are what seem to bother me. Still delicious, I'll pick up another 4- pack to aide in my abidement Saturday afternoon

You don't like a grain bill of predominantly base malt?

    I am the exact opposite.

Thread has gone to shit fast.

I think this year's Wet is a good beer. Will I be buying more at the price I paid ($16.99 plus tax at Haskelll's)? Hell no.

Bought a couple 4 packs at Costco Mplwd. $12.99 (only 2 left in the cooler when I left) like it a lot but probably won't buy again unless they get more in at that price.

And, to finish the thought, the children remain children.

Some of you seem to forget this was brewed by Surly. If you think the beer is bad, then obviously you don't appreciate Surly's intent!

At least now I know I won't be upset if I miss out on Wet 2015.

Wet was good - piney, dank, with some mint and almost mulberry flavors. But I feel like Simcoe, while a great hop, needs some Cascade, Amarillo, or Centennial to provide some of those citrusy notes.
