Putting a couple $20 beers on that list is a bit silly. Expensive beers don't move because they're expensive, not because we don't know they're out there.

These beers are still being drank in mass.

I don't consume some of these because i never see some of these in the shops I buy from. Either they're not distributed out here or they're perceived (possibly correctly) as slow sellers.

Oh, and Lion stout is awful.

Based on join dates, we come from a different period than that guy.

Right -- in no way would I ever be considered a "ticker," and I can still remember when shelves weren't nearly as crowded as they are now.

Still, just because certain books, movies, music may have been written before my time it doesn't mean I can't appreciate them, right?

Good Lord, besides Peche and Aventinus id love to have access to the rest of this list with some frequency in my bottle shops.

Precisely, but you know how the overwhelming majority these days either jumps on the rare bandwagon or bust. They typically need things shown to them whereas we used to seek these things out on our own because we didn't know any breweries being advertised enough to be bias.

I thought about saying, "would you let them loose later?" I realized it was hopeless even for a dumb joke!

Lion Stout isn't forgotten. It has simply been surpassed. There are so many good, readily available craft stouts (not talking imperial, flavored, or barrel-aged) that there is simply no reason to pick up an import when you can, in all likelihood, pick up something fresh, less expensive, and better.

I've personally had of the 10 in the last 6 months or so...

Abbaye St. Bon Chien was good (not phenomenal, just good, so I'd rather spend that $40 on a couple of other bombers/6ers for the price)

Also, I prefer Aphrodite to Peche Mortel (even though Peche is fantastic as well)

I've only ever had Peche Mortel once, since we don't get it down here in Texas. The memory is still pretty damn amazing.

Make no mistake, this list is aimed at the people who like hops and bourbon more than beer.

    Lion Stout

    LOOK - 3.5
    SMELL - 2.5
    TASTE - 2
    FEEL - 2.5
    OVERALL - 2.5

Consumed May 3rd, 2012 at The Tin Cow, Pensacola, FL from a can. Poured into a pint glass.

Extremely dark brown with a finger-high mocha colored head.

Aroma is a little on the red grape tip with some subtle roasted malts.

Flavor is a mess. Chalky, thin, weird. Red grapes, weak, lightly roasted malts, mineral notes. Low bitterness.

Unremarkable mouthfeel, save for the chalky, chewy bit.

Think I'll take a pass on this one next time I see it.

I had Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien on tap last year and was blown away on how good this beer is. There was a recent thread Last Beer to Take Your Breath Away.... it was the St. Bon-Chien that I put for it. It is too bad it is so expensive.

I love some BFM and Grand Cru. Picked up Bon Chien 08, 10, and 11 on shelves in Indianapolis.
