Not necessarily. Fort George's Fresh IPA last year was a 100% Simcoe fresh hop beer. Absolutely stellar with all the citrus flavor you could ask for. Gigantic's Sodbusted 2: Simcoe Boogaloo pulled off the same thing.

If we're talking about this year's Simcoe haul, Stoup (Seattle) did a Simcoe-only fresh hop and it was more subdued. Maybe something with the harvest. Who knows.

Has Wet always been 3 days from vine to kettle? I thought most fresh hop beers were overnighted and brewed more rapidly than that, within 12 hours or next day. I could be wrong about Wet but the 3 day time stood out to me. Not trying to load on, I still dream about that 2011 Citra version to this day. Went through a case of it, was one of the best tasting and most aromatic beers I've ever had. Those qualities usually come together as a package deal with IPAs.

I don't know how long it takes to harvest, but it could take a while. Combine about 24 hours (I just did Seattle to Surly, so it could be less) drive time, you could be looking at a day and a half or more out of the gate.

Most FH beers are less than 12 hours, but there a few that have waited longer. Ft. George's Fresh IPA (Mosaic) this year was two days I think, and it's still damn good.

I believe they mentioned 6,000 lbs total. Larger operations can do that in less than an hour.

If you are not satisfied with this year's batch, bring me you remaining cans for proper disposal (butt chugging).

A dextrin malt ideal in lagers and a sour mash malt...?

This year's flavor profile is ideal for butt chugging, I have found.

A dextrin malt to boost mouthfeel/body and acidulated malt to correct mash pH.

Assuming they got the percentages proper. Overdo it on the dextrin and you'll get... a lagering undertone.

Its possible it was air freight to get it there quicker, but yeah, I initially had some concerns when I read that it was 3-4 days from vine to brew kettle. They brewed so many batches that some of the hops sat for days. Not sure what other breweries who do large outputs of wet hop beers do, but it be ideal to have daily deliveries of wet hops to keep the vine to kettle at no more than 24-36 hours.

Read back a few pages. A lot of palettes are picking up a lager like quality underneath the hops on this beer. Almost like a... wet hopped Heineken.

So, you're just jumping to conclusions about the malts used in the beer. Good work. Also, it's "palates"

I assume they use the same method of shipping as in the past and it was the best thing anyone ever tasted...ever.

However, now the shipping takes too long, it's poorly executed, so there's no aroma and simcoe sucks - bad cat piss and skunky ass Heineken flavors. God damn, I'm glad I'm not a brewer for a living.

I agree with the white wine character. Comes through big time. But doesn't have the earthy aspect with it like Nelson beers do. Has a definite pilsner vibe as well.

I like it, but it has more subtle things going on. If you're looking for a bitter, resinous hop assault, you'll be unhappy.

I like this one. But I also liked the 2013 Wet. I get the white wine aspects as well as mint and grass. I think there is a lot to appreciate about this beer. But price definitely is not one of them. Ouch! Didn't it cost $12.99 in years past?

Cubs play tonight, so I'll have at least 3. Cubs play tomorrow, so I'll have at least 3. Nice dry pine, perfect on these crisp IA evenings.

    Sean, it's gotta be either:

    1) the name of a crappy a cappella or doo wop group.."The Lagering Undertones"
    or
    2) a ridiculous way to describe a beer, replacing my previous favorite: "refreshingly soapy"
