I'll be in Philly tomorrow and the girlfriend and I plan to check out Monks sometime in the evening. Not sure how up to date their bottle list is, but I see a couple of Cantillon bottles on there. We would love to split a few bottles with someone if anyone is up for that. We could also do it tonight though we planned to spend the night at Tired Hands.

Their bottle list is not up to date. They do often have cantillon, but it also sells out fairly quickly. Being on the bottle list online unfortunately does not mean anything. You could call and see if they have any in stock, but Monks is worth a visit either way, so you can just find out what it is in stock when you are there! Just wanted to temper expectations a little bit. Additionally, i rarely turn down monks and tired hands but this weekend unfortunately doesn't work for me.

Also, you can use www.phillytapfinder.com to find any beers you might want to try. I often use the site to search "russian river," "hill farmstead" and "tired hands"

Great advice. I would also add that I typically just search under sour/wild ales to see if anything out of the ordinary is on.

I planned to visit Monks regardless, based on several recommendations. The Cantillon bottles would just be a big plus! Sorry you can't join us.

FYI: Monks typically limits one Cantillon bottle per table (when they do have Cantillon bottles).

Hmmm right now, I'm seeing no reason to drink anywhere but Tired Hands. Love the Fermentaria. Too bad that the site above was a bit outdated. Struck out on trying Hill Farmstead Double Cites next door at the Beer Shoppe.

Monks was great! The mussels were among the best I've ever had, and a pretty good tap list. Unfortunately I was told there where no Cantillon bottles available. I definitely get a vibe that such bottles are probably reserved for friends or big spenders based on the wording on the menu. Oh well, Monks is still worth the stop for sure

To be fair, I was there, from Enola, a non-regular and asked if they had any Cantillon. They informed me they had three options and it was one per table. I don't think it was a regular/friends thing at all. Glad you enjoyed, Monks is a great place/time.

Definitely for anyone that has money to spend. Don't need to be special, they just have to have them in stock!

That is good to know. I think the Chicago scene has made me a bit cynical as this type of thing seems to be commonplace.
