I remember getting excited to try Big Eddy Oktoberfest and it turned out to be a boozy mess for me. Guess I'm not a fan of high ABV Oktoberfest. In turn I pass on other high ABV beers of this style.

Great Lakes and Left Hand make the 2 best out there, imo. They come in at 6.5 and 6.6% ABV, respectively.

Oktoberfest should be around 5% ABV or less, IMO. It is meant to be user friendly.

I'm honestly confused. Are you of the opinion that lagers are different than ales in regards to being capable of reaching a certain enjoyment level?

Hofbräu's is listed here as 6.3%. Are they setting the high point of the bar or exceeding it? It's only a little bit lower than the Left Hand beer that inspired this thread.

    So,for you,lagers can't be something special?.......
In the right moment, in the right mood, in the right enviroment, a true, proper lager can be the second coming of christ:wink:

After reading this thread, I popped my Avery Kaiser about 15 minutes ago. Very Tasty, but def not true to style, way heavier mouthfeel, sweeter, with the acohol burn on swallow. But I like it. No one is pounding 1L mugs of this for long!

It's pretty nice, I've had it many years ago. It is available here in GJ, I might have a bottle of it sitting around.

    Cheers!

Not particularly, try a Salvator Doppelbock next to your favorite "Imperial" Oktoberfest, bet you'd be surprised.

Then there's this one that's been around a very long time. The original brewmaster admitted right up front that it was his hybrid between a Doppelbock and an Oktoberfest -- back before anyone coined the "Imperial" phrase on Oktoberfest.

I've had that, to me definitely a big difference with an Kaiser.

    Cheers!

I haven't tried Hofbrau, I'm sure it is good, but I think that is a little high on the ABV for my tastes. Given a choice, I would order something lower ABV, especially if I was out on the town.

Even at 6.3 abv drinkability is high on the Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest.
