Yakima Fresh Hop kegs were just filled late last week and are just now starting to go out for distribution this week. Anything you've seen listed previously is guaranteed to be Ohio Fresh Hop (Red IPA).

The yield on these Fresh Hop beers is pretty bad and the batch size is still small. Only about 40-45 total kegs going out for distro. That being said, Yakima was smelling nice n stinky....I'd recommend seeking it out.

This Thursday (10/15), 50 West in Cincy is doing a bottle release of their BBA 10&2 Barleywine. This is a delicious beer not to be missed if you can make it!!! It will be on draft as well.

They haven't released the exact time or allotment, but judging by prior releases, it should commence at 4 or 5, and albeit it's 2/person. They almost always last for awhile, so don't think you gotta be there right when it starts.

So for a bottle (or in this case, can) release to be "worth it" means no limit? Well shit, guess that means you'll avoid making the trip to Jackie O's for their bottles, eh?

    */snark and sarcasm*

Seriously though, I'm glad for limits, otherwise, you see the mule teams come out.

Oh I am all for limits. I drove down to Jackie O's and back after work one day to get 6 bottles of Black Maple. Driving about 4 hours RT for 8 cans of an IPA is a different story. I wish they brewed more of it so I could bring home some more. I would be fine with 4 four packs, but it's hard to justify the trip for 8 cans.

If I didn't love Konkey Dong so much I wouldn't even consider going for 8 cans, but with a bunch of other stuff I have going on right now I can't really justify the trip. Going from no limit Konkey Dong to 8 cans for Roller Blabe is a bit unexpected.

Personally, I'm glad to see them set limits. They sold out of Konkey Dong pretty damn fast (but saw many people grabbing 3+ cases while others struck out). Can't wait to see what Mom Jean variants they have because that French Roast Coffee Version was insane!

Paying 7.99 for a bomber of duet and hoppy birthday puts these $12-14 FFF bombers to shame.

Anybody else go to the Nut Smasher tapping last night at Willoughby? We arrived at 5pm and they already had it ready to go for sale, the place was dead (surprisingly) from 5-6pm and even from 6-6:45pm or so until we left, it wasn't bad at all. I expected far more people honestly.

Unfortunately, I was hugely disappointed in Nut Smasher (at first... read on)... It was not very impressive with light flavors and it really had nothing special about it... Shortly after, one of the brewers or managers tasted the tap I got my glass from and I heard him mumble something to the bartender... Something about the lines not being "flushed" or something and it wasn't right. He filled about half a pale with what was coming out of the lines and eventually gave it the OK. Sounds like the standard porter was in position prior and the line wasn't purged all the way, so my glass was likely half and half. I should have said something, but I am usually not one of those types of people... What I had wasn't bad by any means, just light in flavor and such since it practically was diluted with their standard porter.

So I tried some other offerings they had and eventually got my second glass of Nut Smasher (along with the glass to keep for $4 more). Now this time, Wow... This is what I expected! So much more flavorful, the body was far thicker and a huge improvement over my first. So glad I got a second glass of it. Intense peanut butter for sure, would be an excellent dessert beer paired with some chocolate... haha

Compared to the PBC Porter, NS ended up being the winner for me when I had them side by side. Both excellent of course, but NS just has that additional body and intense flavor profile that I liked. Both are fantastic, though!

For those who couldn't make it yesterday, Fat Heads Taproom will have it Thursday along with PBC Porter and a few other guest taps from Columbus Brewing that look fantastic. Sadly, can't make it Thursday due to work stuff :slight_frown:

That reminds me of my experience at Winking Lizard last night. I ordered a Citrus Bodhi and as soon as I smelled it I thought something was off...or EVERYTHING was off. Absolutely no citrus smell. Had a couple sips and thought no way was this Bodhi let alone Citrus Bodhi. I mention it to the bartender and she couldn't figure out why. The guys next to me are busting my balls saying they just had some and it was great. I gave them my glass and they said they got absolutely no citrus either. I mentioned it to the bartender again and a light bulb went off. She talked to some other employees and they fixed the issue. I have no idea what happened or what beer I was originally drinking, but they got me the right one. The bartender was really cool about it and felt terrible. There is a certain way to bring something like that up without sounding like a dick and I think (or hope) I pulled it off.

^ Ya that's the worst. Went through the same ordeal with regular Bodhi, although the server was adamant that I was wrong. Felt bad for the people who were trying "Bodhi" for the first time and came away unimpressed. Watered down kegs, mismatched tap lines. Amateurs.

When you finally got the right beer, how did it taste? I haven't been able to taste any of the kegs we sent up for Lizard yet but the majority of feedback I've seen has been really positive. Just curious your thoughts after the initial issue.

Generally speaking, this is the kind of shit that drives breweries and their dedicated servants (ahem: me) crazy. Bars pour the wrong beer or inaccurately list the name of a certain beer or pull user generated (and often inaccurate info) off of a rating site, which turns into misleading a consumer. Or tap a keg of something right behind a keg of barrel aged cinnamon chocolate coffee vanilla root beer whatever the hell without cleaning a line. It affects your enjoyment of said beer....which affects your opinion of beer and brewery....and would likely affect subconsciously your thoughts of that establishment. More attention to detail needs to take place by everyone in this industry. Just ordering kegs and throwing them on tap is not enough. Craft beer is popular enough that many places get away with it though.
Let me be clear, this is in no way a slam on Winking Lizard as an organization. Truthfully, they are among the best and leaders in our industry in the way they treat their draft systems and the beer they serve. I am merely speaking in generalities about situations that happen ALL THE TIME.

Don't ever feel bad about mentioning something if you feel something is off. I promise you, the brewery wants you to have a good experience and to have their beer presented in a proper way.
