Has anybody else seen this? I bought a 6 pack with a bottled date of 7/30/2015. The first couple I had in August were pretty good. The third one in September had a touch of sour but was still good. I just opened the fifth and sixth one tonight. The fifth one was all carbonation and distinctly sour. For the sixth one, as soon as I touched the bottle opener to the cap, the cap exploded off of the bottle and a huge rush of sour foam came out.

These were in a ~75 degree pantry the entire time and I just noticed next to the bottled date a "Please Refrigerate" note in small text. Did I get an infected batch, or does this beer really require refrigeration to last longer than a couple months?

Haven't tried the beer but I feel with infections you should try e-mailing the brewery first. It does sound like an infection issue, storage at that temp for that long shouldn't cause a beer to be off that.

Sounds infected, but I gotta say that's not a beer i keep for more than a week or two anyway. Four percent coffee beers should be drunk asap, in my opinion.

There is no way that not refrigerating that beer will cause such an explosive reaction. If it was like that store that don't use beer coolers are in for a rude awakening. Definitely infected. Now that you have had a few how were they with some wild yeast?

@kwill Sounds like an infection. Lack of refrigeration would not cause that. Contact the brewery via email. Include dates or batch codes you can see on the bottles/packaging and describe what you see and taste. Any decent brewery will want this feedback so they can trace the batch, determine what went wrong, make sure it doesn't happen again, and pull any bad product still on shelves. Most brewers will at a minimum thank you and many will compensate you, because feedback that can help them fix problems in their brewing process can potentially save them thousands of dollars in future ruined beer and bad reviews. If they ignore you, then I think that shows they don't care about their beer or customers and I wouldn't buy their stuff again.

Thanks everyone. I did contact the brewery and this was their response:
"Thank you for choosing our beer. You have our sincere apologies about the pack you purchased. Firstly, you may return your pack to the store you purchased it and receive an new one. Any store should honor this request. If not, call me and I will make sure you are served to satisfaction. Your storage methods were not incorrect but all beer benefits from refrigeration--simply extending its drinkable lifespan and that should be four or more months. Please let me know if your store doesn't replace your purchase."

Hopefully they also capture this feedback to determine if there was possibly a bad batch that they want to proactively address.
