I really enjoyed the BA Foursome - much better than the base beer, and significantly better than most bourbon barrel-aged quads I've had. Though I felt like a weirdo asking for a Foursome and a Double Fist from the attractive female bartender...

Usually the attractive ones charge ya more for the double fist and foursome unless you are a regular. #mugclub

Had coffee Eugene a couple days ago. The coffee tasted kind of old and stale. My friend said it tasted like when you leave your French press sitting out uncleaned for several days. Did I miss the peak time for this beer?

    Possibly, yeah. It's a cask.

Had the BA Foursome yesterday and WOW, was that a great beer. It was like sipping on a glass of Woodford Reserve without the harshness. Just a smooth, sweet BBQ with a heavy dose of bourbon (which I tend to like anyway).

Coffee Eugene was excellent, like a chilled cup of french press. I was bummed that they were out of Rosa and Cross of Gold.

Rise was very good for the style. Agreed that it should be called a black IPA, but can see the argument for a "hoppy stout". Whatever, it's just good!

This is back on. Gonna go have one and see if it tastes better/fresher than last time. Or if I was just an idiot...

Will say this again: Coffee Eugene is amazing. ALMOST as good as the first batch of Hell's Black Intelligencer.

The menu says that this batch was made with cold-pressed coffee -- not sure if the first several batches were made the same way but I do think this is the first time it's shown up on draft. It's spectacular.

Is this just on at kedzie or at the brewpub?

Probably not permanently, but they rolled one out at the grand opening party when I had Coffee Eugene on cask. Frankly, I wasn't impressed. It's much better on tap. However, that's how I feel about a lot of porters and stouts that I've had on cask. It's a much different story with other styles. For example, Zombie Dust on cask is incredible.

Disagree. I felt the cask mouthfeel was absolutely killer, whereas the draft MF is just good. I felt the cask was "fluffier" and "creamier"

Brewpub (on Milwaukee) tapped out Wed evening. Had regular Eugene instead - still pretty good.

Polished off my coffee Eugene growler last night during the Bears game. It was a good night...it's been a rough morning.

Yes, I can see that. However I don't think a cask works well with coffee, unless it's very fresh and then sometimes it still doesn't even matter. The coffee tends to get quite bitter, IMO.

By the time I made it to RevBrew (less than an hour after my post) they only had it on cask, the draft was kicked. They must have updated their beermenus page after having tapped the keg a few days earlier. The cask pour I got was similar to the one I mentioned as being bitter/stale a couple months ago. I might just be coming to terms with it. The coffee beers I've had have mostly been stronger, sweeter stouts. This Coffee Eugene is much closer to an actual cup of coffee as far as the flavor saturation and the mouthfeel. I was going to guess French pressed coffee, but it seems like I'm not so far off. Good almost sessionable porter. The Double Fist was great too.
