Barrel Select Black vs. Mother Barrel Select

To my taste, mother barrel was way more sour than BSB. I enjoyed the incredibly unbalanced sour onslaught of MB

 

I was in the brewery last night, and was told they were the same beer. I then went home to examine a few bottles I bought 3 weeks ago under the guise that they were "Mother Barrel", and they were identical to the Barrel Select Black I bought when the brewery 1st moved, just with difrrent bottling dates, I believe.

 

Also, their page listed 37 bottles of Mother barrel left, but is is listed as Barrel Select Black in the brewery.

 

Barrel Select Black and Mother Barrel are two different beers. These were split batches of the same base (essentially Nor' Easter) that were given two different treatments. This would be obvious if you were to try them side-by-side.

You'll also notice that Barrel Select Black has a blank cap while Mother Barrel has the newer CL logo caps.

 

Mother Barrel also has the new CL Caps, where as BSB had standard gold caps.

 

They have different caps too - MB has the newer CL logo cap while BSB has a plain gold or silver cap. The taste is remarkably different but both are very nice.

I have had both. That's why I found it odd that they said they were the same at the retail counter yesterday. I was starting to get confused myself.

 

I liked both, but liked Mother Barrel better as well.
