I'm not crazy. Just opened number 5. It is following a flying fish Exit 16 from my kegerator. Head high should blow it out of the water. This does not taste good.

Exit 16 is fine beer maybe Flying Fish's best . I wouldnt say Head High blows it out of the water. Now if you said Hop Fish i would completely agree

Should have clarified. Love Exit 16. But it is a different style of IPA and I have done side by sides, and happen to enjoy the head high style much more. Except now. Meant no disrespect to Exit 16.

So we are all still having issues with these cans and Kane has yet to put out any response? I keep seeing people post about how they are going to reach out to Kane but I never see a follow up. This really knocks Kane down a notch in my book, why ignore the consumer?

Have these hit distro? Have yet to see them in any central NJ stores.

I do agree with this and think Kane should address it. But when put in perspective us on beer advocate are really just a small percentage of Kane's customer base. For all we know a lot of people could be happy with the cans and we may be the minority. I know looking through this thread there are people that are very happy with the cans they have.

no distro for a bit... have to go to Kane to buy or go to a account that gets head high and fill a growler.... there are a few down here in South Jersey that fill growlers of head high pretty regularly.. one even fills crowlers.. my 32oz cans can beat up your 16oz cans... haha

This is really interesting. My initial thought was that the aluminum was altering the taste. But if you have no issues with this in crowlers it is something else, possibly too much sanitizer that people have mentioned.

I sent message via "contact us" page on their website asking if they are hearing this from anyone else, if they noticed themselves any issues, and if so what could be done on the next canning run to address it. Will let you know if and when I hear back.

not necessarily.. cans can be lined differently.. i couldn't tell you if the crowler cans and the 16oz cans come from same manufacturer.. believe the crowlers are ball brand... even if they do both come from ball.. they could be manufactured differently

Michael Kane from Kane Brewing here. As always we greatly appreciate the feedback, especially with this first run of Head High cans. Based on the comments from this forum, you guys have experienced some can-to-can variation on this run. The overwhelming feedback from most social media outlets has been positive, however some of you have mentioned a metallic / soapy taste coming from some cans.

Once we heard of a few complaints we opened 48 cans from different cases across the run in the archive stock to see if we noticed any variation. All the cans we tasted were consistent in flavor and we didn’t notice anything off in that sample size. Unfortunately, we cannot taste every can that is released and we are very concerned over the comments here regarding the flavor and quality. This being our first canning run we had already planned to review the entire packaging process before our next run to see where there could be any improvements made so we can avoid any type of inconsistencies or issues in the future. That's still the plan.

As a way of background for those who do not know much about the brewery, we brew on a 20bbl system into mostly 40bbl tanks. The Head High from this run came from four 20bbl batches of Head High in two different fermenters. We packaged about 20bbls in kegs and the remaining 60bbls went into this canning run. The beer tasted great coming out of the brite tank and the remaining 20bbls of Head High in kegs was sold last weekend in the tasting room and went out to accounts starting last Friday without issue.

We take quality and our reputation at Kane Brewing very seriously and would not knowingly package or sell beer that was not up to our standard of quality. We have dumped plenty of beer and oak barrels that was not up to our standard, including 40bbls of Sunday Brunch last spring that just didn’t taste right to us. As with any of our products, if you’re not happy with your purchase, we can replace your cans on the next run or hook you up with some growlers to make up for it. If you have any more concerns or questions email me at mkane at kanebrewing dot com.

Awesome down to earth response, I think part of it may just be our mental perception of package vs. draft. Still my favorite NJ brewery, thanks for taking the time to respond to us on the forum.

I guess its fair that those of us with no issues chime in as well, as such I can say that I have had no off flavors and I've consumed 1/2 of my case.

Not sure if its just the cans i recieved but can defiantly attest to the off taste. Kinda disappoint hopefully the issue can be resolved for the next canning.

I've shared my case with three people so far and everyone has described it as bright and green. No one has mentioned band aids or metal. Who knows.

I love this post. Great customer service is a dying art. Next time I'm in Jersey, Michael Kane can have all my money.
