Baby got a crowler of FH IPA from Buoy @ GGs, tonight! Need to drain that FH Mosaic D'Kine growler, 1st!

Apparently the northside GG in Spokane is now doing crowlers as well. In other news of the awesome, apparently they are now serving pizzas as well. Since I have an extra stomach just for pizza consumption, that's great news to me, but it seems like they're mixing missions at this point. Growler station or bar/pizza joint? Curious to see if it works.

I think I could happily live my whole life without having to ask someone to fill my squealer.

I think it's actually fairly consistent with the original GG concept. The GG's up in Bend are located inside gas station food stores, and the one we have here in Eugene has a limited food menu. The PDX GG doesn't serve food, but there are several restaurants co-located with them in the small strip mall area where they're located, and I've seen folks there eating pizza along with their beer.

Sounds like a smart move to me. :-)

This also started recently at the OG GG on Bend's Eastside. I haven't tried it, but someone whose opinion I trust said it was surprisingly good pizza. With the number of beers they offer that are better suited to tasters/pints than 32/64oz, they seem to be cultivating more on-premise business.

OK, I guess I have to go hit the northside GG for pizza and beer, in addition to:
    - visit Bellweather Brewing
    - visit Orlison's new taproom (if they decide to be open)
    - visit English Setter Brewing in Spokane Valley
    - visit Big Barn Brewing in Mead
    - visit 238 Brewing in Mead
    - visit New Boundary Brewing in Cheney
    - visit Top Frog in Newport
    - visit any other local E.WA/N.ID breweries not mentioned
Man, drinking local is starting to be work!

I guess it's just my cross to bear...:grinning:

Now, if I could just get Bolt bus to run over there.......

It's worth noting my rant was only composed of places I've yet to get to. If I didn't have to work for a living I'd still have a hard time keeping up with the local beer scene. Don't know how Portlanders survive...

Bolt Bus? I am not familiar with that. Sounds like a conveyance for San Diego Charger fans.

I am convinced it is either 1)food carts or 2) brunch options

It's great. It's a nicer bus than Greyhound, leather seats, wifi, plug-ins. Runs from Vancouver BC, to Eugene, and only stops in Bham, Seattle and PDX on the way. There is a $1 ticket on every bus, and the earlier you book, the cheaper it is. I take it down to Seattle for Mariner games. Only runs the I-5 corridor though.

That sounds really cool. And, yes, there needs to be one that runs east-west (or west-east)

I realize I asked it jokingly earlier in the thread, but what are yall doing to keep the Crowler between pours? Oxygen exposure and loss of CO2 seem like they would reek havoc on this design with no way to reclose the container during the first pint.

I think people are just drinking it over an evening and doing nothing about it. Oxygen exposure / CO2 loss over a couple hours isn't going to be massively detrimental.

These are pretty much single serve containers.

I normally split with a friend, trying to preserve the beer in a crowler has never crossed my mind.

I work at the GG in SE PDX and I've done my fair share of "for science" crowler testing. On numerous occasions I've cracked a crowler in the AM (again, for science) poured glass and put the open crowler back in the fridge. When I return to the open crowler in the PM, it still pours with full carbonation, no noticeable oxidation, or off flavors. I suppose you could saran wrap the top and secure with a rubber band if you're paranoid about off flavors/carb loss, but I've never had any isssues.

I've done this with multiple styles of beer, for what it's worth.

One more data point in my "beer isn't as fragile as people make it out to be" rant.

Anyone else had some spillage when pouring a full crowler? I've only bought a couple so far, but they wanted to dribble on the initial pour. Not a lot, but enough for me to curse. They were filled to the brim with no headspace (thanks, Block 15!). If I wasn't sharing it, I'd probably be tempted to drink the first couple of ounces from the can, and then go for the glass pour. Any other tips to avoid the drips?

Vent the can so you don't get a burble? Make the first part of the pour quickly, then slow down so you don't get too much head?
