Bourbon County variants (I know not that rare, just hard to find here, and I adored base BCBS).

Is it weird I currently don't have one? There are 4000 breweries in the US. So for every whale that gets a ton of hype, there are probably a 100 beers from other breweries that are just as good, but doesn't get the crazy attention. So I just try anything I can. Sure there are some rare beers that I would love to taste, but I'm not chasing after them.

I guess I would say in the past Heady Topper would have been a whale for me, but nowadays I can get it anytime I want.

Mexican Cake. No matter what I seem to do I can't land it. I've landed harder to find beers, this one just continues to elude me and I really want to try it.

I can't get Heady Topper in Portland, but Pliny is reasonably easy to come by. I'll trade you for some KBS or BCBS

Now onto heady. Wish I could've tried the original xocoveza though too.

Here's a different twist - How about one I'm now seeking that already tried before I knew what the heck I was drinking? My wife loved it and drank 80% of the bottle and I hated it ... I also wasn't ticking beers at the time. (I think she's just wired for Sours and Wild Ales while I'm not.)

Epic fail on my part!! :flushed::slight_frown:

This one for me would be a Moby Dick squared. I'm not too proud to say I've done a lot of stupid things in my life, this ranks right up there.

I think my white whale would be to live next to Cellarmaker and drink their beer all the time. Wouldn't matter what it is, just the fact that I could do it alllll the time

I try not to get caught up in the "whale" thinking. Although, I don't hate on those that do. There is so much amazing beer that I can get my hands on in Delaware and Maryland. I don't feel like I am missing out if I can't get Pliny, Heady, Westy, etc. I can take a beer run upstate and hit several Total Wines and other great stores along with a great liquor store just into Maryland called Stateline and get almost everything these states sell.

    Just my 2 cents

I'd be glad to help with this & trade you one next month sometime, if that interests you.

Lots of these Pliny, KBS, Heady type posts are not too hard to come by via trades, if the whales are important enough to you, to be something you really want to try.
