I'm moving from Seattle to the Baltimore area. What should I be expecting with regards to beer? Bars, bottle shops, breweries, etc.

    Thanks in advance!

Expect to be hanging out at Max's a bunch. Definitely check out Brewer's art as well.

I second Max's and Brewers Art. Max's always has great events going on and plenty of taps and bottles available. Brewers Art has excellent food and some really great beers. Union Craft Brewery is a must. The are putting out some great beers and can be found throughout the Baltimore area. I believe the brewery itself is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No food but plenty of other food choices in the area. Maryland has a few other good breweries including Burley Oak which is about 2 and 1/2 hours from Baltimore. They have just recently starting canning some of there beers. I live just outside the city so feel free to PM with any questions you have. Cheers!

Max's , Brewers Art, Stillwater Artisinal... great places. Also check out the Wine Source for a very good bottle shop.

I will be living in Columbia.

And will also be bringing a good amount of beer from Seattle out to hold me over for a while. I will certainly miss the fresh hops and the barrel aged beer programs from out here. But new beer is always good beer so that's exciting.

What about good bottle shops? Are there many stores that sell strictly beer in MD?

I can't think of any shops that strictly sell beer. Since you will be living in Columbia I would imagine your go to shop is going to be Perfect Pour.

Living in Baltimore you'll be able to drive to a lot more places than you would in Seattle. You can go to DC very easily. Take a train to NYC. Drive to some spots in PA too.

Most places in Bmore have been said but in Columbia there is Frisco's Taphouse, The Alehouse, and Victoria's Gastropub.
Besides Perfect Pour, you will probably want to hit up Total Wine in Laurel and Pettite Cellars in Ellicott City.

You will be pretty much right in between Bmore and DC so you are in a good spot.

Welcome to my town! Hit me up some time. I'd gladly drink a few with you. I'm a Alehouse/Frisco/Victoria's and Perfect Pour regular. Klobys, White Oak Tavern, TBonz, and Judges Bench are also great beer/food spots. And good news for you--3 new breweries will be opening in Columbia in the near future. Cheers!
