Don't give them a reason to raise their prices. Too much overpriced product out there right now.

Resin is an oddball. On the plus side they finally got away from that "Sixpoint flavor" that permeates every other can. On the odd side, it's the only DIPA I can ever recall having where I found the malt more interesting than the hops. I'm not sure what other beer out there I'd compare it to - I like it on one sip, don't the next.

I get it - it's a higher abv beer. I didn't really have an issue with it personally. I thought 12oz. was the a good serving size for this beer.

12oz of this was plenty for one serving

What about their other beers? I've been waiting for new cans so that I can be sure the new yeast was used, but I'm not sure how their dating system works.

I still got some of the house flavor but I agree that the malt stole the show. Pretty bizarre for a beer named "Resin."

I don't know - I saw in some other thread that they were starting with one of the existing beers and eventually converting over. I too am avoiding the original Sixpoint styles until the new yeasts...

I thought I read that after a certain date (earlier this year), all of the beers would be Sixpoint house flavor free?

+1.....resin tasted at EBF2012 and 4 pack of Bengali with May 2012 expiration....totally different than Bengali experienced in the summer of 2011. Wrote to the brewery and they did not give adequate explanation

Wasn't their explanation that it was "The Lion ale yeast house flavor" and that Sixpoint was going to start using their own yeast at their "alternating proprietorship" brewery partner in Wilkes Barre, PA?

I don't remember reading it that way. That seems strange that a brewery would switch yeast strains when expanding production.

Yeah, well, that's the problem with the old BA forums being unavailable... BA "JackHorzempa" has had some email correspondences with Sixpoint's owner on this topic, maybe he can weigh in.

Well, if they weren't happy with The Lion's house yeast, why wouldn't they change it?

I understand the move away from the Lion's house strain, but why would you use one yeast to brew in Brooklyn, grow your business, and then switch to the Lion's house strain as soon as you ramped up production? That seems like a big risk hoping your beer tastes the same.

Again, a question best asked of Shane Welch at Sixpoint. I can't remember if it was convenience or part of their original A-P deal with The Lion - some breweries aren't set up for or comfortable with multple yeast strains. I believe some of that info might have been addressed in several threads on the old forums (tho' IIRC one may have been locked/deleted at Sixpoint's request).

This post from Sixpoint suggests that the brewery did not limit them in terms of yeast selection:

Ive had their Righteous, Sweet Action, and Bengali Tiger within the last month (no resin) and i thought Bengali was good, sweet action was ok, and Righteous was great. Just my opinion though

Only beer I have had from these guys that I did not like was brownstone. Still waiting to be able to get my hands on some resin here in VA.

That's an old post though from when Sixpoint first started canning, and that was their original yeast, which many people did not like. They more recently stated they were switching.

Yeah. Jesskidden seemed to think they were first limited to a Lion house yeast and that the switch this year was to Sixpoint's house yeast. My understanding of the Sixpoint post was that they have always had control over which yeast they used at Lion, and thus this year's switch is from one Sixpoint yeast to another.
